131503 - Earthlink seems to have corrected problem from yesterday, but need
131504 - confirmation that all of the welchco records have been transferred
131505 - from JPS. Two new probems occurred. We are getting email for other
131506 - people on attglobal.net, Bruce later explained this. ref SDS 0 P58H
131507 - The other problem is we cannot transfer anything to the new account,
131508 - evidently because of a time disparity between files created locally,
131509 - that are 10 hours older than the files transferred to the new server,
131510 - which turns out is in Atlanta. Bruce is investigating. ref SDS 0 EL7O

131916 - Did not receive call from Cliff, as planned last night,
131917 - ref SDS 40 ST7H, but general testing, indicates he may have succeeded
131918 - in transferring our account to Earthlink.
131919 -
131920 - Today, Cliff's extension 47477 is returning a message saying it is not
131921 - valid. Since he received several calls at this number yesterday,
131922 - sounds like phone problems.
131923 -
131924 - The SDS records for the month of May have the same stuff on Earthlink,
131925 - that is on our local server for the Internet stuff, which corrects
131926 - problems last night. Cliff should report the total space used on the
131927 - Earthlink server to verify that approximately 100 MB has been
131928 - transferred from Corp Web 1 at JPS
131929 -
131930 - We seem to have two problems.....
131931 -
131932 - 1. Files are not being written to the server during FTP.
131933 -
131934 - Tried to send files that have been accumulating the past few
131935 - days, to Earthlink.
131936 -
131937 - [...below, problem is the servers are in Atlanta, and so
131938 - the time assigned to files posted to the server is
131939 - preventing near term consecutive uploads. ref SDS 0 076O
131940 -
131941 - Last night I tried transferring a file individually, and it
131942 - transferred successfully, but there seemed to be a problem in
131943 - not getting a log file back. ref SDS 40 HN6I
131944 -
131945 - Later it seemed we were getting a log.
131946 -
131947 - This shows erratic behavior so far.

133101 - Bruce called back.
133102 -
133103 - Considerable investigating and testing indicates that the Earthlink
133104 - server is rejecting FTP upload files, because it is using a time stamp
133105 - for files based on an international standard that is about 8 hours
133106 - different from local time.
133107 -
133108 - ..
133109 - Bruce pointed out that files we uploaded during testing have a time of
133110 - 2300, which is 8 hours later than local time. He did a separate test
133111 - to overwrite a file a file at the end directory level, rather than
133112 - from the root directory. He got a system message asking if the file
133113 - should be overwritten, because the file on the server is newer than
133114 - the file he uploaded from his computer that uses local time. This
133115 - message does not show up, or at least the system does not pause, when
133116 - transferring from the root directory, and the same condition is
133117 - encountered.
133118 -
133119 - [On 010512 FTP failed to transfer new files. ref SDS 42 UR5L
133120 -
133121 - ..
133122 - He thinks the time is an international standard that can be selected
133123 - on our computer operating system (we are using w2k), so that our
133124 - system is in sync with the Earthlink server, which would be
133125 - approximately 10 - 12 hours ahead of local time in the Pacific time
133126 - zone.
133127 -
133128 - ..
133129 - We reviewed the objective of welchco to use technology for improving
133130 - management by enabling consistent use of good practices, discussed
133131 - recently on 010425. ref SDS 35 FG5O This objective requires providing
133132 - context that avoides confusion and mistakes arising from complexity.
133133 - Time is major part of context, discussed on 991014. ref SDS 7 5600
133134 - More recently, on 000709 the organization of SDS was cited as an
133135 - advantage that aids understanding. ref SDS 22 1029 Time is a critical
133136 - organizing criteria of SDS. Therefore, to accomplish the objective of
133137 - improving ISP support for SDS, set on 010501 in transferring from JPS
133138 - to Earthlink, ref SDS 37 PK6L, we have to at least do as well managing
133139 - time as JPS did.
133140 -
133141 - Bruce feels there may be a procedure for setting the time on the
133142 - Earthlink server to local time for the welchco directory, rather than
133143 - use the international standard time that is 8 hours or so different
133144 - from local time.

133161 - as....

133165 -

133167 - I received it.
133168 -
133169 - Bruce pointed out that I received his letter sent to welchco.com even
133170 - though there is no "brucenewland" at welchco.com (I had not noticed
133171 - this at first), because....
133172 -
133173 -
133174 - 1. Earthlink has forwarded mail for welchco.com to
133175 - rowelch@attglobal.net
133176 -
133177 - This answers question on 010502 about why we have a
133178 - welchco.com email address, but do not have incoming and
133179 - outgoing mail servers. ref SDS 38 CT5K
133180 -
133181 - 2. Software at Earthlink interprets letters to welchco.com that
133182 - are not addressed to rowelch, as being addressed to rowelch.
133183 -
133184 - This explains why we got letters from two different people.
133185 -
133186 - Bruce thinks these folks made typing mistakes, possibly
133187 - sending mail to welchco.org, or welchco.net, or welchcom.com,
133188 - any number of possibilities, and since the names do not
133189 - exist, at welchco, com, and since rodwelch is the only name

133199 - [On 010516 request this feature be discontinued. ref SDS 44 M25L
133200 -
133201 -
133202 - Bruce asked that these letters be forwarded to him for further
133203 - review. He requeted that full header information be provided, which
133204 - is done in Netscape by clicking on "View" in the menu bar, then
133205 - selecing Headers, and Full.
133206 -
133207 - Had to use cut and paste to get the header information to display in
133208 - the letters sent to Bruce.
133209 -
133210 - After he received this correspondence, he confirmed analysis that the
133211 - letters were sent by mistake to welchco.com. He advised of having
133212 - replied to the senders alerting them of errors.

133216 - Bruce Handling Welchco Account
133217 -
133218 - I thanked Bruce for giving this matter personal attention, and asked
133219 - why Sarah, Ken and Cliff have not called, since they have direct
133220 - responsiblity to perform the work, per discussion on 010501?
133221 - ref SDS 37 5P5I
133222 -
133223 - Sarah in particular has been helpful.
133224 -
133225 - Bruce said he has experience with the Welch account, so it is easier
133226 - for him to make progress.
133227 -
133228 - We did not discuss welchco.com using the Internet for management that
133229 - requires a complex design. This presents a foreign application that
133230 - is more difficult than working with other customers, and so may have
133231 - caused reticence for Ken and Cliff to provide support. Cliff seemed
133232 - frustrated last night after trying three times to transfer the record.
133233 - ref SDS 40 HG7L and ref SDS 40 HN6I This added difficulty combined
133234 - with cultural assimilation issues that make communication difficult,
133235 - cited by Bruce on 010423, ref SDS 34 DP4N, and mentioned by Ken on
133236 - 010510, ref SDS 40 UX4O, may be factors.

1336 -
133601 - Bruce called back.
133602 -
133603 - He advised that the default software program that writes customer
133604 - files to the server cannot customize time for each customer. He said
133605 - the server is in Atlanta, so to standardize operations, the server is
133606 - configured for international standard, or "mean" time.
133607 -
133608 - I asked about transferring welchco to a server in Sacramento, where
133609 - the local time is what we need for the reasons discussed earlier.
133610 - ref SDS 0 PM4L,
133611 -
133612 - Bruce said all of Earthlink's servers are in Atlanta; there are none
133613 - in the pacific time zone.
133614 -
133615 - This supplements information discussed on 010501, when consideration
133616 - was given to transferring from JPS to Earthlink. At that time, the
133617 - location of servers in Atanta, which have a different time zone from
133618 - servers in Sacramento, was not brought out. ref SDS 37 PK6L
133619 -
133620 - ..
133621 - Bruce feels there should be a way to solve this problem. People who
133622 - travel, for example, must encounter the problem of needing to upload
133623 - to their server, and cannot be constrained by time.
133624 -
133625 - Bruce will investigate further and let me know Saturday or Sunday
133626 - what can be done.

133636 - ..
133637 - Could be that we just need to set a switch on the ftp program to
133638 - upload without regard to time.
133639 -
133640 - We are using wspft pro. The program Options shows properties that has
133641 - a "Pro" menu tab that shows following options selected.....
133642 -
133643 - 1. Enable auto reget of failed transfers
