SDS Reports Slow on C13

- ..
- Summary/Objective
-
- Follow up ref SDS 4 0001.
-
- Windows 2000 on C13 failed this morning, ref SDS 0 ML5J, and reported
- erratic errors running applications using DOS window, including SDS.
- ref SDS 0 SE6L Reversed changes made last night, ref SDS 0 QT5L, and
- changes to power management made yesterday. ref SDS 0 HT6W W2K gave a
- report of possible virus. ref SDS 0 8R7L  Ran Norton virus protection;
- it reported no viruses on c13. ref SDS 0 B83S BIOS and driver for
- IDE hard drive were upgaded by files from Intel; this did not improve
- performance. ref SDS 0 N3RY Later in the day, blue screen Stop
- failures began occurring regularly. PC Doctor recommended running w2k
- setup to replace defective files. ref SDS 0 QW4O This did not work,
- so tried clean install by formatting I: drive where w2k is installed.
- Did this many times throughout the night. ref SDS 0 M29O Cleared blue
- screen Stop problems, but only provided 599K of RAM for SDS, rather
- than 634. ref SDS 0 Y2WK Tried different ways to install w2k, and
- discovered that the Advanced option for designating the partition to
- install w2k is not provided when installing from the w2k CD.
- ref SDS 0 ST9L
-
- [On 010207 called Microsoft, they say OEM CD may have defects,
- sending full version to clear performance problems. ref SDS 7 B46N
-
- [On 010214 installed full version of w2k, did not solve problems.

-
- Follow up ref SDS 4 1J7L, ref SDS 2 GE7H.
-
- Early this morning encountered a blue screen Stop report that w2k
- crashed, evidently due to a conflict between power management in the
- BIOS and w2k, but not really sure, per below. ref SDS 0 HT6W The
- initial blue screen Stop was cleared by botting the computer. It came
- up normally, but when DOS apps were called, an error message appeared.
- The message had a choice to launch the application; when this was
- tried, the application seemed to run normally. ref SDS 0 SE6L Later DOS Apps are not
- failed to run correctly. For example, I am writing this paragraph at
- the end of the day to sum up, and the system is suddenly switching
- between caps and standard case, so we have a severe problem. Through
- the course of the day, downloaded drivers from Intel, which hopefully
- enable w2k to work better with the latest Intel hardware. This has not
- eliminated the DOS app problem, nor has it ended the poor performance
- of the overall system.
- ..
- The initial blue screen Stop failure occured after the following
- sequence about 0641....
-
- I pressed the shift key, and the screen came up.
-
- I clicked on the task bar for the DSL application, and this
- launched the Pac Bell NTS EnterNet 300 program for connecting to
- the Internet.
-
- After this step, the screen went blue, and the following was
- entered in VGA plain text....
-
- Stop 0x00000001 (0x0004010, 0x00000002,0x00000000, 0xBFF2046B)

- restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow
- these steps.
-
- Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly
- installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardward or
- software manufacturer for any Windows 2000 updates you might
- need.
-
- If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed
- hardware or software. Disalbe BIOS memory options such as
- caching or shadowing. check your hard drive to make sure it is
- properly configured and terminated. If you need to use Safe
- Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer,
- press F8 to select Advanced Start Up Options, and then select
