-
- 2. On 011005 Mike recommended upgrading the Jazjet SCSI controller
- in order to improve performance. ref SDS 14 H64G
-
- On 011008 SCSI Stuff recommended using Adaptec 19160.
- ref SDS 16 0001
- ..
- On 011010 installed 19160 and encountered problems
- terminating SCSI bus because Exabyte tape drive does not
- provide this feature. ref SDS 17 DE7G
-
- Backup rate was 50% slower with new Adaptec controller.
-
- 3. On 011011 Exabyte recommended updating firmware, ref SDS 18
- SN3I, and purchasing additional equipment to terminate SCSI
- bus. ref SDS 18 6U7H
-
- 4. Mammoth LT tape drive should perform within the range of 200
- MB/Min to 300 MB/Min, reported by Exabyte on 011011.
- ref SDS 18 RM9K
-
- [On 020507 Amanda advised expected DTR range for Mammoth LT
- tape drive is 120 - 240 MB/min. ref SDS 32 YH4G
- ..
- 5. On 011027 after updating firmware and installing new
- equipment to terminate SCSI bus, ref SDS 20 0001, backup was
- about 100 MB/Min with new Adaptec 19160 controller, so switched
- back to JazJet adapter because it had been performing at about
- 200 MB/Min. ref SDS 20 021G Testing showed this configuration
- still performed at about 200 MB/Min, which is 100% faster than
- using the Adaptec 19160 controller. ref SDS 20 M75O
- ..
- 6. Subsequently, on March 7 more evidence accumulated
- indicating that the problem of failed backups was using 45M
- tapes. Further experience on April 4 pointed to the 45M tapes.
- Carrie Shaw in the Exabyte technical support department noted
- on April 8 that 45M tapes may not be compatible with high end
- systems. Yesterday, I installed the Adaptec 19160 SCSI adapter
- in the computer again to see if this would run faster with the
- 125M tapes. It still runs at about 100 MB per minute per
- original experience reported on 011010. I therefore removed
- the Adaptec 19160 controller and installed the JazJet which
- previously had performed at about 200 MB/Minute. However, it
- too is now performing at about 100 MB/Minute. Thus, something
- has caused a 50% drop in performance.
- ..
- 7. This is occurring using Windows 2000 on a 1.4 MHz system
- with 520 MB RAM and a 46 GB drive, which was fairly high-end a
- year ago, but is now a medium machine. ref DIT 1 3C48 Does
- Exabyte have any issues with W2K and/or Pentium IV systems that
- show performance falls below the 200 - 300 MB/Min DTR which
- Exabyte expects for the Mammoth LT, as reported on 011011?
- ref SDS 18 RM9K For example, on 011005 Mike explained one
- issue that slows performance. ref SDS 14 2T15 In recent weeks,
- W2K longer to shut down, but have not noticed other apparent
- performance issues with W2K. Can you provide support to get us
- back to at least 200 MB/Minute?
-
- 8. On 020321 we installed McAfee virus protection. ref SDS 26 0001
- Could this be a factor? Are there issues between McAfee and
- backing up? ref DIT 1 KE5G
-
- [On 020507 Amanda advised expected DTR range for Mammoth LT
- tape drive is 120 - 240 MB/min. ref SDS 32 YH4G
