0804 - ..
0805 - Summary/Objective
0806 -
080601 - Followed up work at ref SDS 11 line 86, ref SDS 12 line 67,
080602 - line 97, and ref DIP 3 line 30 via internet transmitting the new event
080603 - agenda, ref OF 1 line 18 prepared last night, ref SDS 10 line 95.
080604 -
080605 - Received telecon report on PMI Asilomar planning meeting held 960216.
080606 - There was no approval to accept Bill Walsh, or any of the speakers,
080607 - and no approval to commence advertising in PMI Communications. There
080608 - will be another meeting next week.
080609 -
080610 - [See follow up letter to Bill at ref SDS 13 line 94.]

0809 - Progress
0810 -
081001 - Bill left a message that he met with the PMI Asilomar event planning
081002 - team on Friday, and presented the theme and agenda on Communications.
081003 - It was not approved at this meeting. He said other ideas were
081004 - developed during the meeting, but no alternate agenda, schedule or
081005 - proposed slate of speakers, advertising, etc., was submitted or
081006 - considered, i.e., at this time there is no alternate plan. Bill
081007 - seemed to indicate that Sherrill McDonald offered some support for
081008 - Bill's presentation.
081009 -
081010 -
081011 - Planning, Schedule, Resources, Assignments
081012 -
081013 - The lack of an alternate plan or slate of speakers appears to
081014 - conflict with earlier reports in the NCC PMI Nov 1995 Newsletter
081015 - about the "planning" underway for Asilomar, ref SDS 2 line 64.
081016 -
081017 - In sum, it appears not much planning occurred at the meeting on
081018 - Friday. Part of the problem is that they are starting late
081019 - relative to the time required to formulate a theme, and then to
081020 - shape an agenda based on speaker availability, which itself takes
081021 - takes considerable time to develop. Everything has to be worked
081022 - together. But, until they begin doing it, they don't have enough
081023 - experience to appreciate the need for timely decisions. Results
081024 - of the Feb event should be helpful. Has anyone reviewed it in
081025 - relation to objectives?
081026 -
081027 - To adopt an alternate plan, they need a schedule showing what
081028 - needs to be done, and assignment of tasks for real people to
081029 - perform the tasks.
081030 -
081031 -
081032 - Bill reported general interest in having Bill Walsh speak, but there
081033 - was concern that Walsh's fee of $15K may be too high since seating is
081034 - only 125 - 130. Apparently there was no discussion about developing a
081035 - budget to see what level of financial support might be needed for the
081036 - event, in relation to the price of attendence, or possible sources for
081037 - that funding.
081038 -
081039 -
081040 - Speaker Criteria
081041 -
081042 - I am a little suprised there is not more enthusiasm to hear Turner
081043 - speak, since they are one of the largest contractors in the world,
081044 - and Ahmet indicated in an event planning meeting that the NCC PMI
081045 - wants to increase involvement of construction, ref SDS 1 line 325.
081046 -
081047 - Similarly, it seems strange with all of the ink devoted to "Modern
081048 - Project Management" and the PMBOK in PMI publications, that there
081049 - would not be stronger interest to hear from Chips & Technologies
081050 - and Intel on how the practice of management will evolve in the
081051 - ensuing period, and from General Hatch on implementing "Project
081052 - Management" at the Corps of Engineers, ref SDS 3 line 53.
081053 -
081054 -
081055 - There is another meeting next Friday.
081056 -
081057 - Bill will be at his Dad's on Monday and Tuesday. He will call again.
081058 -
081059 - Bill did not indicate in his message this evening whether...
081060 -
081061 - • He received and offered the revised agenda, r 1 line 17,
081062 - submitted on Feb 15 via internet ref DIP 3 line 30 at ref SDS
081063 - 11 line 85, per our discussions on Feb 10, ref SDS 8 line 145.
081064 -
081065 - • The speaker commitment letters were submitted to the team from
081066 - Turner ref DRP 2 line 23 received at ref SDS 6 line 65, and
081067 - from Chips & Technologies ref DRP 1 line 27 received at ref SDS
081068 - 7 line 110.
081069 -
081070 - • There was discussion of PMI Communications willingness to write
081071 - an article on the December PMI dinner meeting provided he can
081072 - advertise the theme and agenda on Communications in a PMJ or PM
081073 - Net publication, and that this requires early notice, per ref
081074 - SDS 4 line 99, discussed at ref SDS 5 line 127 and ref SDS 8
081075 - line 160,
