060735 - taking Bob home and will look in on him.  Robin was coming down to

060737 - plans to visit them for a weekend in the next week or so.

060745 - I took Candi's letter to share with everyone.  Mother, Kathleen
060746 - and Uncle Jim were deeply moved by Candi's thoughtfulness and

060749 - Stephanie's friend, Gene, arrived, with his landlord, who seems to be
060750 - a family friend.  We met the landlord's niece, Lisa, who lived with
060751 - him for a number of years, next door to Stephanie and Gene, and was a

060756 - we all are.  She was comforted by Patti and Amy who are close to her
060757 - age.  We met Jennifer's friend, McKensie, who seems like a very kind

060759 - dealing with details of Stephanie's passing.  We were all proud of her
060760 - courage and ability in handling one of life's greatest sorrows.

060762 - Ed, Kathy and Amy looked well.  Ed is making good progress with his
060763 - new store for wholesale auto parts in Visalia.  Kathy took a picture
060764 - of Amy and Ed, so this event was somewhat cathartic for them because

060786 - ...as a Christmas present.  Brokaw celebrates and commends their

060806 - shown up on local television supporting various civic matters. Sounded
060807 - like Larry has been able to take an ownership position in the Kimmel
060808 - firm, or perhaps bought out the Kimmel interests.  Norman mentioned
060809 - that he has sold his business.  He kept several stores in Northern
060810 - California, but mostly he is out of the business.  So the changing of

060815 - Norman asked about sending computer files via Internet to his
060816 - broker in the City, who is assisting with finalizing details on the
060817 - sale of his business.  He is sending floppy disks via regular mail,

060823 - The minister at Kathy's church did an excellent job speaking to all of
060824 - us as a group to honor and remember Stephanie, and providing a
060825 - religious tone to commemorate Stephanie's life and family.

060829 - Kathleen explained that over the past number of years she has grown
060830 - closer to Stephanie.  She related today, long lost childhood events
060831 - and recent excursions that told of Stephanie's zest for life, love for
060832 - her children, and adventurous spirit.  There was a picture of us kids
060833 - on one of Mother's trips to visit, probably in 1962 or 1963. It showed
060834 - Stephanie's beauty and fun loving personality, as a teenager, that
060835 - carried her through a turbulent adulthood.  Like all of the girls in
060836 - the family, Stephanie was a remarkable beauty in starting adult life,
060837 - for all the world to see, just as her heart was good and kind, and
060838 - giving at the end.

060840 - We recalled our time growing up, starting in Ontario next door to
060841 - Grandmother's place where she and Grandad lived with Uncle Roy.  Aunt
060842 - Dorothy and Uncle Kenneth also had a home on that property.  Stephanie
060843 - and I used to play on the tire swing hung from a large old oak tree on
060844 - the property.  We would, also, use a trailer, that was normally parked
060845 - next to the oak tree, as a sort of teeter totter, where both of us
060846 - could stand on the back, and make the front end where the hitch was,
060847 - rise.  We would jump off so the trailer would come slamming down and
060848 - make a lot of noise, strictly contrary to instructions from Grandad.

060850 - We also helped Grandad gather eggs because they had a chicken ranch,
060851 - with all of the buildings and stuff that so intrigue young minds.

060853 - Then for awhile we moved alot -- to Whittier, then El Monte, later to
060854 - Sunnyvale, to Grandmother's in Saratoga. At some point us kids stayed
060855 - with Aunts and Uncles, while Mom and Dad sorted out their lives
060856 - together.  Stephanie and David went to stay at Uncle Pat's and Aunt
060857 - Peggy's home.  So Stephanie and Candi got to spend a lot of time
060858 - together during that period.

060860 - Stephanie was always the "good soldier" helping her brother, and
060861 - sister, and our older cousin, Beverly, who was really our Aunt, but
060862 - she lived with us often for extended periods as a big sister in those
060863 - early years.  Beverly was an inveterate fort builder.  She did the
060864 - planning and directing. Kathleen and I were the workers.  Stephanie,
060865 - probably 4 or 5, loved to participate with her older siblings, sitting
060866 - huddled around a fire in our little fort, long after dark, planning
060867 - our next "big" project.

060869 - Then we wound up in Garden Gate about 1955, where Mom Lil, Robby and
060870 - Sally came into our lives.  Again, we were jammed into pretty close
060871 - quarters, but us kids thought it was a great adventure, first on
060872 - Dunbar Street and later on Stevens Creek in Cupertino, where we lived
060873 - in the old Parish place.  Sally and Stephanie shared a bed for many
060874 - years, and so grew close sharing secretes and dreams during those
060875 - impressionable years.  All of us shared the adventure of living in an
060876 - old home, almost our own Winchester Mystery house, as the Parish place
060877 - was reputed to have been the oldest house in the area, dating back to
060878 - the 1870s, or so the local lore had it at the time.

060884 - Stephanie showed great spirit and wonder about the richness of life,
060885 - always in the center of childhood pranks and gossip, urging her
060886 - siblings to experiences at the edge, and sometimes, for good measure,
060887 - just beyond the bounds of propriety, but never with ill will.

060889 - So, we miss her greatly and wish her well on her new journey, her new
060890 - adventure, as Candi says... she rode on ahead.  That was Stephanie.

060892 - Today, Gene, Stephanie's friend and companion the past few years, was
060893 - very emotional during the minister's comments, so it was difficult to
060894 - get through this part of the ceremony.

060896 - Rita remembered the fun of growing up as cousins, visiting and getting

060899 - Kathleen's family friend, Carol, expressed appreciation for knowing

060902 - Patty had arranged to have balloons for everyone.  She explained the
060903 - idea of releasing the balloons so that each of us can symbolically
060904 - "let go" of Stephanie, releasing her spirit to find peace in a new

060907 - We all did this in a ceremony outside.  Mother made some warm remarks
060908 - commending Stephanie's life to posterity, as we released the balloons
060909 - and watched them float toward the heavens.

060912 - result of Candi's suggestion in her letter remembering Stephanie,
060913 - about organizing an event for all of us.
