0908 - ..
0909 - Summary/Objective
0910 -
091001 - Follow up ref SDS 14 0000, ref SDS 13 0000.
091002 -
091003 - JPS transferred Welch files to another server. This caused temporary
091004 - substitution of a Microsoft Web page for the Welch Web pages.
091005 -
091006 -
091007 -
091008 - ..
0911 -
0912 -
0913 - Problem
0914 -
091401 - When I logged on a few mintues ago, there was a Microsoft Web page in
091402 - place of the Welch Web home page.
091403 -
091404 - Somehow a Micorsoft Web page has been substituted for the Welch Home
091405 - page. It has occurred within the past two to three hours since I
091406 - last accessed our site.
091407 -
091408 - It has a bunch of image files linked. It seems that someone must
091409 - have uploaded an index.htm file to our directory.
091410 -
091411 - It is not clear how they would have access to our site without our
091412 - password.
091413 -
091414 - I tried 4 or 5 times to FTP the site to fix the problem, but we still
091415 - cannot access our own site, due to prior problem that is supposed to
091416 - be fixed tomorrow. ref SDS 14 0000
091417 -
091418 - I called JPS and talked to Chris Scanlin again, following up our
091419 - discussion yesterday. ref SDS 14 0000
091420 -
091421 - Chris asked me to hold while he investigates.
091422 -
091423 - He came back on-line a few mintues later and verified that he is
091424 - getting the Microsoft Web page in place of the Welch Web page.
091425 -
091426 - Advised Chris that we are unable to access our own site via FTP due
091427 - to JPS problems, so we cannot fix this. It is unclear how anyone was
091428 - able.
091429 -
091430 - Chris will investigate further and call back. He plans to talk to his
091431 - "network" people.
091432 -
091433 - He said he will call back within 30 minutes.
091434 -
091435 -
091436 -
091437 - ..
0915 -
0916 -
0917 - 1201 Chris called back
0918 -
091801 - JPS Transferred Welch Web Files to Another Server
091802 -
091803 - He said the problem on our web page occurred, ref SDS 0 2718, because
091804 - JPS transferred our data base to another server, and during the
091805 - transfer period, the system temporarily loaded the Microsoft files
091806 - into the Welch directory, or otherwise caused the substitution.
091807 -
091808 - He said the problem is now corrected, because the data transfer has
091809 - been completed.
091810 -
091811 - While we talked, I was finally able to access our Home Web directory
091812 - and noticed that the index.htm file is now the correct one. There are
091813 - no extraneious files or directories, as observed earlier.
091814 -
091815 - I asked how JPS was able to transfer the Welch data to another server
091816 - without notice and approval by Welch in light of the representation by
091817 - JPS that the transfer on 980625 would improve service? ref SDS 4 2528
091818 -
091819 - Does JPS now represent that this latest transfer will increase service
091820 - relative to the record of performance on the Unix server Barberra?
091821 -
091822 - We need the name of the new server?
091823 -
091824 - Is it NT or Unix?
091825 -
091826 - Second, Josh Speer advised on 980629 that JPS would not transfer Welch
091827 - to another server, which it earlier promised to do in order to solve
091828 - the JPS problem of inadequate service. ref SDS 5 4774
091829 -
091830 - In the discussion on 980629, Josh seemed to concur that the record
091831 - of this transaction indicated that JPS had a duty to make the
091832 - transfer, and as a result he planned to ask the JPS Technical
091833 - Manager, Raphael Diaz, to call Welch in order to arrange for JPS to
091834 - transfer the Welch files. ref SDS 5 2305
091835 -
091836 - Since JPS did not call back, Welch incurred approximately 19 hours
091837 - of extra work uploading the data base to the server, much of which
091838 - was due to JPS failure to provide the service to service
091839 - contemplated in entering our contract. ref SDS 8
091840 -
091841 - Chris said we are still on an NT server and it will do an even better
091842 - job than the server we were using previously.
091843 -
091844 - [On 990423 JPS says Unix server will work better. ref SDS 15 9462]
091845 -
091846 - Chris said he will get me the name of our server.
091847 -
091848 -
091849 -
091850 - ..
091851 -
091852 - I asked Chris if he is familiar with HTML commands. He related having
091853 - done work with HTML.
091854 -
091855 - We looked at the Welch Home page and noticed that the action buttons
091856 - have a blue hue when viewed by Internet Explorer, that is not present
091857 - using the Netscape browser.
091858 -
091859 - Chris said the blue border seen in Netscape can be eliminated by
091860 - using a border command. He will send me the code to do this via
091861 - email.
