1108 - Summary/Objective
1109 -
110901 - Follow up ref SDS 17 0000, ref SDS 16 0000.
110902 -
110903 - JPS expedited deletion of defective data base. Took about 8 hours to
110904 - do this second upload. ref SDS 0 3456 There seems to be improved FTP
110905 - access compared to the Unix server. Communication from JPS seems
110906 - improved. ref SDS 0 1165
110907 -
110908 - Required approximatly 10 hours today, ref SDS 0 3456, including
110909 - coordination with JPS to delete the erroneous records. ref SDS 0 2300
110910 -
110911 - Time for transfer on 980629 was 9 hours, ref SDS 17, so adding 10
110912 - hours today makes a total of 19 hours todate.
110913 -
110914 - [On 980701 submitted results to JPS. ref SDS 19]
110915 -
110916 - [On 980716 JPS transferred Welch files to another server without
110917 - notice, indicating it could have transferred the files today and
110918 - saved Welch 19 hours. ref SDS 20 0000]

1112 - Evaluation
1113 -
111301 - NT Server Improves Service on Unix, Need Anytime FTP Access
111302 -
111303 - Follow up ref SDS 12 8888.
111304 -
111305 - Uploading to the NT server over the past two days shows that it is
111306 - extremely slow to the point of being non-existent for transferring
111307 - large files or a lot of files during one session, between 1700 and
111308 - 2300. From 1200 to 1700 it is slow. There are a lot of messages
111309 - saying the line is busy, and when there is a connection, the system
111310 - can hang at any time, with or without a system message.
111311 -
111312 - This is a slight improvement over performance on the Unix server,
111313 - Barbera, where we were denied access on 980625 beginning oa 0300 until
111314 - 1400. see ref SDS 12 0000 The NT server seems to be "over-tasked" in
111315 - this time frame in like manner to the Unix server, Barberra. see the
111316 - record at ref SDS 12 0400 So far there has been good performance on
111317 - the NT server after 0000 until oa 1400.
111318 -
111319 - Better ftp access is needed for effective "business intelligence,"
111320 - under the reasoning on 980625, ref SDS 12 1448, which was submitted to
111321 - JPS in the Welch letter on 980625. ref DIP 2 3986 Current access is
111322 - adequate to try the concept of providing an "intelligence" service to
111323 - customers.
111324 - ..
111325 - Improved customer service indicated by Bruces' offer in his
111326 - letter to contact him directly, ref DRT 1 4351, and his voice mail
111327 - leaving a direct phone number, ref SDS 0 1777, is helpful. Similarly,
111328 - Josh Speer's offer for direct contact may be helpful. ref SDS 16 2305
111329 -
111330 - Ultimately, use of the Internet for effective management support
111331 - requires a design and reliable infrastructure that permits timely
111332 - "intelligence" to be made available anytime, anywhere, under the
111333 - analysis on 971105. ref SDS 1 2367
111334 -
111335 - By definition, this requires anytime, anywhere "ftp" processing.

112107 -
112108 - Josh said he can accomplish this task.
112109 -
112110 - He needs to write up the order. He feels it will take about an hour
112111 - for him to complete the deletion. That will be about the period I
112112 - need to assemble the corrected records.

112915 -
112916 - 3,578 files 1,955 folders 26 MB and 33 MB used
112917 -
112918 - It is curious that w95 is using 10 MB more on h than on e, because of
112919 - the larger size space on h that requires a larger file allocation
112920 - unit.
112921 -

112924 - Received notice from JPS that incorrect records deleted

112926 - Received ref DRT 1 0000 from Bruce Newland at JPS confirming that the
112927 - incorrect SDS records have been deleted. Bruce left the sd directory
112928 - and the others, per above, requested in my letter. ref SDS 0 6242
112929 -
112930 - Also received oa 1100 a voice mail confirming the email message and
112931 - giving Bruces's phone number, if there any questions.

112933 - This reflects improved communication with JPS.

113302 - Uploaded data base to Web site - Required 8 Hrs
113303 -
113304 - The upload ran continuously from 1003 until sometime before 1230. It
113305 - had transferred the records for...
113306 -
113307 - 880101 to about 940410
113308 -
113309 - It then ran for about 45 minutes, and hung.
113310 -
113311 - I then was in the mode of yesterday evening. It would do variously 5
113312 - to 20 records, but on one occassion it transferred maybe 300 to 400
113313 - records, covering as much 2 years, until it crashed.

113702 - 80% by about 1300, and the last 20% took 5 hours because the slowness
113703 - using FTP to JPS.
113704 -
113705 - Earlier, I tested http access to the data base to make sure the fix
113706 - created at ref SDS 18 0000 worked.
113707 -
113708 - Time for assembly to completion was approximately 10 hours.
