-
- Currently, Medit in MS DOS provides Windows cut and paste support
- from icon in top left corner.
- ..
- On 101103 Morris planning to research adding cut & paste for OS,
- similar to DOS. ref SDS B7 244F
- ..
- On 101124, Morris developed initial cut and paste feature for
- interoperability beween applications. The left margin did not quite
- work correctly.
- ..
- Today, on 101126 Morris called. He has developed a copy and paste
- feature.
- ..
- We booted the system using Eluminate.
- ..
- Copy works now by using the mouse left button to highlight text, and
- the release the left button. Move the mouse to the location in
- Medit/SDS Java and open Edit menu option. Select Paste.
- ..
- During the work today, found data entry does not use wordwrap to
- apply the right margin, and does not set the left margin based on the
- cursor location.
- ..
- Morris indicated he had to add to "paste" the SDS "macro" feature
- that applies SDS tools for entering text according to margins.
- ..
- After making this correction, we got paste to enter text correctly
- after copying from an Internet web page.
- ..
- After we ended the work session, further testing shows "paste" does
- not enter text correctly from an SDS record to another record.
- ..
- Called and left message for Morris we need refinement on this.
- ..
- Paste is applying carriage returns at the end of the line, and then
- wrapping the text.
- ..
- After calling Morris, futher testing shows Windows DOS works the same
- way copying and pasting text beween SDS records.
- ..
- Seems like the issue is that SDS records have CRs at the end of each
- line. However, HTML files do not have CRs. So, se need Morris' code
- to remove CRs in the past process.
- ..
- Sent a letter to Morris saying...
-
- 1. Subject: Cut & Paste Seems Correct, Possible Refinement
- Date: Fri, 26 Nov 2010 17:50:08 -0500
- ..
- 2. After our work session today, I called and left a message
- saying cut and paste does not seem to work correctly in some
- cases. After further testing the issue I encountered seems to
- show the new code works the same way in original SDS. So,
- nominally the new Medit Java works the same for cut and paste
- as original Medit, which satisfies our baseline objectives.
- ..
- 3. Please consider, however...
- ..
- 4. Copying text from HTML files, e.g., on the Internet, which is
- the main use, or from a word document, the lines do not have
- CRs at the end. Therefore the text enters smoothly into SDS
- records. This is the use case we tested successfully.
- ..
- 5. Copying text from an SDS record and pasting to another record,
- gets messed up because there are CRs at end of each line.
- ..
- 6. Therefore it would be a big improvement if you can code "paste"
- to remove CRs, so wordwrap enters correctly in SDS records,
- just as it does with text from HTML and wordprocessing files.
- ..
- 7. In any case, great work getting to the level of support we have
- had in original Medit using DOS cut and paste.
