Schedule File Suddenly Blank

- ..
- Summary/Objective
-
- Follow up ref SDS 44 0000, ref SDS 43 0000.
-
- Gary reports that the code correction yesterday resulted in a
- successful program launch; hopefully this means the archive operation
- also ran using the 4DOS configuration Gary reported yesterday.
- ref SDS 0 TY6M Gary encountered a problem switching between the
- Schedule and SDS records. The circumstances are so far unclear.
- ref SDS 0 QQ6O Gary plans to call later today about the Subject Index
- matter that came up yesterday, ref SDS 0 VY5F, so we can discuss the
- Schedule problem at that time, if it has not been solved. Gary is
- looking closely at guidelines on SDS formats that apply a flexible
- structure methodology; this will help avoid further problems.
- ref SDS 0 QATW
-
- Sent email linked to this record for response to Gary's letter.

- Schedule File Blank Switching Between Files and Using ESC
-
- Received ref DRT 1 0001 from Gary saying...
-
- I am, however, having another problem:
-
- The schedule page comes up empty after working with records and
- then using <esc> or Ctrl F6 to move from the current record to the
- schedule. The schedule screen shows up as an empty file.
- ref DRT 1 TR6I
-
- ..
- Closing the Diary with <esc> doesn't fix the problem.
-
- The problem appears to be independent of whether the Diary is open
- or not.
-
- ..
- Can't imagine what can make the Schedule file become a "blank" page,
- but then I couldn't imagine the problem yesterday, ref SDS 44 Y93J, so
- go figure???
-
- [On 021105 Gary confirms problem. ref SDS 45 QQ6O
-
- ..
- One scenario that might have happened is that Gary opened the
- Schedule, then opened a diary record, maybe another. He could have
- opened a blank file, and switching around using Ctrl F6, he might have
- used ESC in the Schedule without realizing it. This would have
- defaulted to the SDS record, then when ESC or Ctrl F6 was used, that
- left the blank file in memory. Since opening a blank file is a little
- awkward in SDS, this is not a likely explanation.
-
- ..
- Opening a blank file...
-
- Home puts cursor on Command Line
-
- e xxx
-
- Opens the file "xxx"
-
- The file has not lines and no profile, so it does
- not appear as a conventional blank page.
-
- ..
- Cursor is on command line in the blank file, enter...
-
- macro 150 <Enter>
-
- This creates blank lines and the user is ready to go with a
- profile for the editor.
-
-
- ..
- Another way to open a blank file.
-
- In an SDS record press F1 F3
-
- This opens File Access.
-
- Enter a string of any kind after sd 10, so the screen looks
- something like this...
-
- c: sd 10 ksxy
-
- ...where "ksxy" can be any string that does not represent an
- actual file.
-
- ..
- Press Enter or click on the line, and the blank file is

-
- ..
- Back to problem at hand.
-
- It is easy to test if the Schedule file is still there by opening
- another session of SDS. If the session launches correctly, you are
- okay; just assume something quirky happend, per above. ref SDS 0 4R5H
-
- If the problem occurs again, then we have a problem, and can discuss
- it when Gary calls on the Subject Index issue, per planning below.
