1806 - ..
1807 - Summary/Objective
1808 -
180801 - Follow up ref SDS 10 BP3K, ref SDS 6 A13H.
180802 -
180803 - Submitted ref DIP 1 0001 to Jack Park expressing regret we have not
180804 - had more time to keep in touch. Understand from John Deneen that Jack
180805 - has assembled a core group of technology people to expedite work on
180806 - Nexist. Looking forward to hearing about Nexist implementation for
180807 - education discussed during the meeting on 010605, ref SDS 8 AN9H, and
180808 - in relation to planning in Jack's paper reviewed on 010223.
180809 - ref SDS 5 JQ4K
180810 -
180811 - [On 011004 submit letter asking about progress on these issues.
180812 - ref SDS 11 0001
180813 -
180815 - ..
1809 -
1810 -
1811 - 1748
1812 -
181201 - Received ref DRP 1 0001 from Jack explaining.....
181202 -
181203 - Right now, the servlet necessary to allow Nexist to work on the
181204 - Web is being a real hoot to program: not nearly as simple as I
181205 - first thought it would be. It only works, sortof, and 'sortof' is
181206 - not good enough. ref DRP 1 0001
181208 - ..
181209 - Nexist is an Applet-Servlet system; a lightweight Java Applet is
181210 - downloaded from the web page and it logs into a Servlet that then
181211 - couples the Applet to Nexist itself. Servlets are funny things:
181212 - they behave like one-shot affairs. You make a request, and the
181213 - servlet makes a response. If Nexist can't get the response back
181214 - to the servlet in time, the response dies. I found a way to
181215 - program around that and am now testing it. ref DRP 1 5V6F
181217 - ..
181218 - Jack says....
181219 -
181220 - Nexist in the classroom is not a Web affair; Nexist works fine
181221 - when you are just using Nexist applications on an intranet talking
181222 - to a Nexist server elsewhere on the same intranet. ref DRP 1 LU6L
181223 -
181224 - What does Nexist "work fine" for doing that aids learning?
181226 - ..
181227 - For example, SDS "works fine" for thinking through writing,
181228 - which strengthens literacy, explained in POIMS. ref OF 1
181229 - 3742 and on 010614, ref SDS 9 HD6O, An example is this
181230 - record. Details of implementation for improving memory are
181231 - set out in the record on 001219. ref SDS 3 FO5M Memory is
181232 - a key factor in learning and reasoning, reported on 900319.
181233 - ref SDS 1 1323
181235 - ..
181236 - Does Nexist do this as well, or does it do something
181237 - different and/or additionally that aids learning?
181238 - ..
181239 - Jack continues....
181240 -
181241 - So, Nexist will, very soon now, see light in the classroom.
181242 - As I understand things (given that my son is in the class that
181243 - will use Nexist), they are presently using Jeff Conklin's QuestMap
181244 - and learning how to do facilitated IBIS discussions. When one
181245 - classroom wants to collaborate in discussion with classrooms
181246 - elsewhere, then we will need Web capability. ref DRP 1 DX7G
181247 -
181248 - What does QuestMap do to aid learning, or otherwise improve
181249 - cognitive processes for organizing, analysing, aligning,
181250 - summarizing information, and getting feedback to refine
181251 - understandings?
181253 - ..
181254 - Is it possible to observe students using QuestMap and/or
181255 - some effort to apply IBIS at school, is this performed in a
181256 - computer lab?
181258 - ..
181259 - The record on 010517 reports there is no evident record
181260 - where IBIS has been deployed to develop work product
181261 - demonstrating increased productivity for a student,
181262 - executive, engineer, etc. ref SDS 7 QY7N The record on
181263 - 000218 reports finding IBIS is to rigid for improving daily
181264 - management practice. ref SDS 2 0785 This was supported by
181265 - Gary Johnson on 001220. ref SDS 4 RD9N
181267 - ..
181268 - Eric Armstrong reported that Conklin has lost confidence in
181269 - IBIS. ref SDS 7 RN4H It would be particularly helpful to
181270 - see Jeff's daily work product showing how often he uses
181271 - IBIS for calls, meetings, email, and other knowledge work
181272 - he does regularly.
181274 - ..
