- Summary/Objective
-
- Follow up ref SDS 3 0001
-
- This morning, and for the past week, we have had increasing problems
- getting the dial up modem to work properly.
-
- We are getting a message:
-
- Opening port...
-
- Error 797: The connection failed because the modem (or other
- connecting device) was not found. Please make sure that the
- modem or other connecting device is installed.
-
- We have cleared this previously, by getting properties from the
- system file list program, selecting hardware tab, then running the
- hardware wizard.
-
- [On 010202 removed this modem and installed the modem from c10.
- ref SDS 6 HJ6F
-
- [On 010204 another solution would have been to use Control
- Panel for removing the modem hardware device, then installing
- it again, on the next system power up. ref SDS 7 6M6J
-
- This entails trouble shooting the modem device.
-
- W2K reports the modem device is working properly.
-
-     There is an option to test the modem, by clicking properties;
- however, there are no properties, which indicates something is
- wrong, so I removed the modem.
-
- Also, tried running the Device Manager and scanning
- for hardware on the Com 1 port. One or both of these have worked in
- the past.
-
- There is a procedure of pinging the modem to see if it is responding.
-
- Tried re-installing the IBM dialer from....

-
- h: 00 19
-
-
- After re-installing the dialer. Continued to get same message.
-
- Tried the Pac Bell Dial-up connection through the modem. This failed
- also, which indicates the modem may be failing.
-
- On 970620 we had a similar problem and cleared by removing the modem,
- then re-installing it. ref SDS 1 GF3O
-
- The modem installed in c11 is...
-
-
- US Robotics 56K
-
-
- ...per the record on 981114. ref SDS 2 9640
-
- We have a disk for the modem in c11, that lists a variety of choices
- for US Robotics 56K.
-
-
-
- US Robotics 56K FAX INT PnP
-
-
- Installation was completed successfully. However, when we query the
- modem there is an error message that it is not responding.
-
- Does this mean the moden has failed, and needs to be serviced or
- replaced?
-
- Could this be happening because we need an updated driver?
-
- On 000310 set up Dial-up networking. ref SDS 4 3207
-
- Since we have DSL, we could eliminate use of the dial-up modem.
-
- As a temporary work around, we can use Netscape to continue using
- incoming email server....
-
-
- Server name: pop3.attglobal.net

-
- User name: usinet.rowelch
-
-
- This works, because the DSL modem can retrieve mail from the ATT
- Glogal email account.

- This now seems to be working.
-
- Could eliminate the ATT global account altogether. Could get a new
