Subject:
3-layer Architecture Transforms IT to KM
Dear Tom,
Here is a letter submitted today, August 20,
to Eric Armstrong and to
the OHS/DKR group that both explains and
illustrates how to implement a
3-layer architecture
for transforming alphabet
technology from traditional information to enable a culture of knowledge. This
aligns with your interests in architecture and in
transformation,
set out in your letter on July 26, 2002.
..
Following
your request
when you called on July 29, I have looked through the record of
your meeting at the Santa Fe Institute
this past May, which you
provided by reference in your letter on July 26. Review and study shown in the
record on July 26 shows a lot of
promising ideas,
people and opportunities to forge a path of
transformation
from information to a
culture of knowledge,
as explained in POIMS.
.. As I mentioned in
our discussion
on July 29, I met with Pat Lincoln at
SRI later in the afternoon about getting an
endorsement of SDS,
based on Pat's
experience with SDS work product for the past several years. We made good
progress, and I am finalizing a draft for Pat to issue, as shown in the record
on July 29.
.. Discussion with Pat at SRI raised raised issues on transforming IT to KM.
Foremost is the need to
study what works
by applying professional research to
the story of SDS and Com Metrics. You may recall this idea was presented
during your event for
GivingSpace
at the Santa Fe Institute.
.. Pat pointed out during our meeting on July 29 that research requires a
specific
thesis to investigate,
and so I have begun to craft a few ideas that
might be considered.
.. Given your interest in transformation, you might take a turn at crafting
a thesis or two that would interest you for research, based on the explanation
of SDS in
POIMS.
..
Finally, Harold Koenig made a comment to the team during the
GivingSpace event this past May about
finding a way to contribute that is not already being
accomplished by others.
Helping established cultures advance from
information to a culture of knowledge would have the biggest long term
impact by enabling people doing the work with stronger literacy skills
that lift the capacity to think, remember and communicate.
Transforming the GivingSpace culture, as a model, would provide
immediate capability to devise effective short term measures for
advancing philanthropy and develop experience for transformation of
others.
.. Thanks for your interest in SDS and Com Metrics.
