-
- Progress
-
- Millie and I drove to San Francisco from Concord and brought CPU10 so
- I can configure it with w98 to solve the problem reported on 980109 in
- the record at ref SDS 13 2400.
-
- This morning I called Kevin at Pctown.
-
- He said he tested the CD ROM drive after it was installed, so that W98
- booted successfully when he did this.
-
- Kevin confirmed that W98 requires the Explorer program to run, and if
- we are getting that message then we have to install w98 again.

- Work Plan
-
- One problem we have is that we have only a single monitor.
-
- I used the boot disk to launch w98 setup from the hard disk.
-
- I used the w98 setup disk from CPU11.
- ..
- This was nearly successful, but after about 30 minutes of
- copying files and performing various interactive setup steps, there
- was an error message that said...
-
- A fatal exception 0D has occurred at 0028:C0001FCE in VXD
- VMN(01)
-
- The current application will be terminated.
-
- I then started over and used setup on the w98 CD disk that came with
- CPU11. We cannot use the w98 upgrade CD disk because it can only be
- used if it finds w95 setup files on the computer.
-
- This ran successfully for about 30 minutes again, except this time
- the program requested a w95 setup disk to upload video drivers.
- Specifically it requested the file...

- s3refre.ini
-
- ...and some other files.
-
- I tried skipping this step.
-
- Setup completed the process, but we do not have any video control.
- The only mode it accepts is VGA, 640x480.
-
- So at a minimum we need the drivers for our video controller and this
- w98 setup program thinks they are on a w95 setup disk.
-
- We have a disk that came with CPU10 entitled...
