- Unzipped Wayne's Contacts.
-
- Here is what happened.
-
- The problem is that we blew out the D summary when we tried to save
- Wayne's DNRC record.
-
- I will just go through and update all of his records.
-
- Here is a problem with the SDS update process.
-
- The following is the Contact template for making a new organization
- record...
-
- h: sd 09 02 00 00 00 00
-
- ...because this is a Contact file, it is not normally included
- in any program update.
-
- Wayne has the correct Help file for the Contact format.
-
- I copied the correct file for creating a new Contact.
-
- Looks like I have to go through all of the Contact records and
- conform them to the new format.
-
- Does the "file open" feature support Contacts, as well as SDS and DMS
- records?
-
- SDS = s
- DMS = d
- CNS = c
-
- ..
-
- Actually, it doesn't, so I modified the program to open contact
- records from a conventional file list, and assign Contact profile so I
- can use F2 to save the records in order to reconstruct the D contact
- summary.
-
- I opened and modified contact records up to about 190, and noticed
- that these are all old Welch Contacts. This is especially evident by
- the date of the files that are prior to 1992.
-
- As a result, decided to just update records that have a date past
- 1996, this indicates a record Wayne has used within the past two
- years.
-
- ..
-
- Wayne should consider creating new records by replacing old ones that
- are no longer needed. It appears about 90% of the Contacts are old
- records that can be replaced.
-
- Another idea is that if Wayne really only has 10 to 20 records he is
- using, we should just create a new set of Contacts for him. This
- would reduce the ability to look up records using by Contact, but if
- this is not a major part of his practice, it makes sense to create a
- new set of Contacts.
-
- 0485 Bureau of Land Management - investigate this record
-
- This record was mixed up.
-
- Jim Bianando was shown as the record identification on line
- "00" at the top of the record.
-
- I changed the name to "BLM" and moved Jim to line 0101, which
- would mean he is a top person in the organization at the
- address for this contact record. There is no title for Jim
- and no phone, so the entire entry may be some kind of SDS
- error where a line got mixed into a record where it does not
- belong, so Wayne needs to check this.
-
-
- Completed modifying the records.
-
- Tested the loading DNRC's record and it worked. Also tested by
- filling out a Doc Log where DNRC is the "From" field. This worked
- because I added an "Internet" address field, as shown in Help for
- Contacts.
-
- Zipped Wayne's records and returned them as ww.zip.
-
- Restored my records.
-
- ..
-
- Submitted ref DIT 1 0000 with corrected records, linked this record

- Instructions to Install Corrected Records
-
- Plan is to save your original records, at least for awhile, at
- another location, and install the revised records.
-
- 1. You already have the existing records zipped in hs.zip.
-
- If you deleted that file after uploading to the web site,
- then create it again, per instructions in the record on
- 980806. ref SDS 10 2064
-
- Save hs.zip to a temporary directory, say...
-
- c: 09 or 10
-
- Alternatively, use xcopy and just duplicate your sd 09
- records on c:, as follows:
-
- C>xcopy h:\sd\09 c:\sd\09\ /s [Enter]
-
- ...this allows you to check the originals, it seems that
- something I did is incorrect in a particular record.
-
- ...you can delete this temp stuff in a few weeks or a
- month when you feel confident the revised records are
- not missing anything.
-
- 2. Remove your existing Contact records on h: as follows...
-
- C>dd h:\sd\09 [Enter] (say yes)
- ..
- 3. Install corrected records...
-
- C>zu -P -d -n ww h:\ *.* [Enter]
-
- [On 980710 Wayne had problems because this command is
- incorrect, it should not have "-P" since that is only for
- zipping up files. ref SDS 11 0000]
-
-
- ..
- Incorrect SDS Subdirectory
-
- Wayne reports that the following has been created on his system...
-
- C:\sd\10\SD\01
-
- ...per his letter received today. ref DRT 1 8477
-
- I am not sure how this happened, but happens inadvertently, somehow
- installing an updated program.
-
- We checked yesterday and found that the number and size of the total
- files for SDS on Wayne's computer is the same as on mine, so that
- indicates whatever has occurred previously, he now has the correct
- code.
-
- Therefore, he should delete the sd 01 directory with following
- command...
-
- C>dd c:\sd\10\sd [Enter] (say yes)
