0605 - ..
0606 - Summary/Objective
0607 -
060701 - Followed up work at ref SDS 10 line 47, ref SDS 9 line 46.
060702 -
060703 - Began preparing a report cover using Defense Department and COE
060704 - logos.
060705 -
060706 -
060707 -
0608 -
0609 -
0610 - Progress
0611 -
061101 - I tried to using Word to create a Defense Department logo by scanning
061102 - letterhead paper provided by Tom this morning, ref SDS 10 line 69.
061103 - This will be used for the cover instead of the folder Tom provided
061104 - because this thing needs to lay flat and so it needs a spiral binding.
061105 -
061106 - Used procedures for creating a logo for Bill Benkavitch at ref SDS 2
061107 - line 167.
061108 -
061109 - Where shall we put the District Logo? I wound up putting it in the
061110 - directory:
061111 -
061112 - f: 04 00065 00 AC BG usa.lgo
061113 -
061114 - However, it did not print well enough. It looked okay on screen, but
061115 - the printed image was fuzzy. I tried using the MS Picture Editor that
061116 - shows up on CPU #8 but is not on CPU #9 for some reason. There was no
061117 - apparent way to edit the logo to improve its sharpness. I tried using
061118 - MS Paint and this succeeded in doing some editing, but could not
061119 - sharpen the image sufficiently for it to print adequatley.
061120 -
061121 - I took the Defense Department stationary to Kinko's so they could
061122 - create an adequate logo file. The representative refused. He said
061123 - they recently lost a $3M lawsuit because they copied a logo without
061124 - permission of the owner. The representative wanted a letter signed by
061125 - someone with the Defense Department granting permission to create a
061126 - logo file.
061127 -
061128 - I went back to the office and used the COE stationery sheets with the
061129 - Defense Department logo provided by Tom this morning by putting them
061130 - in the printer tray and printing the cover sheet created in Word, ref
061131 - OF 2 line 29. This produced a cover sheet with the Defense Department
061132 - logo.
061133 -
061134 - I prepared a "final" report using the folder with the COE castle logo
061135 - which Tom provided this morning, ref SDS 10 line 70. However, the
061136 - report in this folder has several problems:
061137 -
061138 - 1. The main problem is that the pages cannot be opened so they
061139 - lay flat. This means it takes directed effort to hold the
061140 - thing open to any particular page, and this makes it difficult
061141 - to use.
061142 -
061143 - 2. The cover is limited in what it can show, and so the broader
061144 - explanation on the cover sheet cannot be seen at first glance.
061145 -
061146 -

061149 -
061150 - This final report has the appendicies:
061151 -
061152 - From the work at ref SDS 8 line 77.
061153 -
061154 - Comments from COE managers
061155 -
061156 - Herb's memo, ref OF 4 line 9.
061157 - Marc's memo, ref OF 5 line 17.
061158 - Leonard's memo, ref OF 6 line 16.
061159 - Max's memo, ref OF 7 line 18.
061160 -
061161 - Tom's evaluation of SDS and Welch, ref DRP 2 line 19.
061162 -
061163 - PG&E Evaluation, ref DRP 1 line 16.
061164 -
061165 - Scope of Services for Communication Metrics, ref OF 11 line 19.
061166 -
061167 - [See where we received signed memos from COE staff, ref SDS 14 line
061168 - 88.]
061169 -

061171 -
0612 -
0613 -
0614 - 1219 visited Tom
0615 -
061501 - Delivered report to Tom per ref SDS 10 line 91.
061502 -
061503 -
0616 -
0617 -
0618 - 1329 revised cover sheet
0619 -
061901 - Decided to try to create a better cover and to use an alternate
061902 - folder style to solve the above problems.
061903 -
061904 - I used the COE castle logo sheet received from Wanda this afternoon,
061905 - ref SDS 10 line 93, to scan the logo and loade it into the document.
061906 - I put this file in directory:
061907 -
061908 - f: 04 00065 00 AC BG 001061.doc
061909 -
061910 - This resulted in a professional looking cover with both the Defense
061911 - Department and the COE castle logos.
061912 -
061913 - Took this stuff to Kinko's and they prepared five (5) sets of reports.
061914 -
061915 - [See payment for this work on Monday, ref SDS 11 line 75.]
061916 -
061917 - I also created the report in Word to take advantage of wordprocessing
061918 - formatting. I created file:
061919 -
061920 - f: 04 00065 00 KCC 00106.doc
061921 -
061922 - However, I would up with some kind of style that is not clear how to
061923 - advance it or to remove it. I wanted the thing to build the table of
061924 - contents.
061925 -
061926 -
061927 -
061928 -
0620 -
0621 -
0622 - 1755 visited Kinko's
0623 -
062301 - The reports look very good. However, they did not create the tabs. I
062302 - worked with one of their computer specialists to design tabs. At this
062303 - time the tabs will simply say A, B, C, D. They will have them finished
062304 - by 1800 tomorrow, so I will probably pick them up on Sunday or Monday
062305 - morning.
062306 -
062307 - I am thinking now of changing the tabs to say:
062308 -
062309 - A - COE Comments
062310 - B - SDS Evaluation
062311 - C - PG&E Evaluation
062312 - D - Scope of Services
062313 -
062314 - [See follow up where tabs were revised, ref SDS 13 line 112.]
062315 -
062316 -
062317 - ..
062318 - Need to modify report:
062319 -
062320 - Explain Organic Subject Structure as similar to COE's WBS for
062321 - project management, and possibly explain some considerations that
062322 - make it a powerful method for implementing policy.
062323 -
062324 - [See where Appendix was added at ref SDS 12 line 83.]
062325 -

062327 - Develop language from Dialog, Documents and Human Memory, ref OF 9
062328 - line 63.
062329 -
062330 - Develop language from paper for Morris at Asilomar.
062331 -
062332 - [Did this at ref SDS 12 4455.]
