1008 - Summary/Objective
1009 -
100901 - Followed up work at ref SDS 4 0000
100902 -
100903 - Bill indicated PG&E has decided to terminate my contract support work
100904 - on 941216. I will help Tito learn to use the SDS record, and will
100905 - attend two pending meetings, including submitting meeting notes.

1012 - Discussion
1013 - ..
101301 - Bill said Chris talked to Tito about learning SDS, per our
101302 - discussion last Wednesday, ref SDS 2 9889. Tito feels based on the
101303 - meeting we had last week (ref SDS 3 0020), that it will be too
101304 - difficult for him to learn SDS. As a result, Chris wants to end my
101305 - contract week after next, on 941216.
101306 - ..
101307 - Chris indicated to Bill that if Tito, who is one of the better
101308 - computer users in the group, feels SDS is too hard, the prospects are
101309 - low for achieving our goal of wider use in the Project Management
101310 - group.
101311 -
101312 - I agree with this analysis, except it may require a little more
101313 - exposure to reach a conclusion about how difficult it is to learn
101314 - SDS. Our approach last week, was to provide Tito several months, and
101315 - PG&E management support. My hope was that the benefits of SDS shown
101316 - over the past period would justify the training efforts we planned
101317 - last week, even though Tito initially feels troubled by the prospect
101318 - of the learning effort for the reasons we discussed on Wednesday at
101319 - ref SDS 2 line 148. In any case I will do everything possible to
101320 - help PG&E implement its decision.
101321 -
101322 - [See analysis by Bill at ref SDS 5 line 108.]
101323 -
101324 - Bill asked me to advise the amount of my billing through the end of
101325 - next Friday, so he can prepare a final change order. He will also
101326 - prepare a report on the results of the SDS contract.
101327 -
101328 - Bill wants me to attend the CDWR progress meeting, and the
101329 - meeting with SMUD on the Gold Hill project.
101330 -
101331 -
101332 - He said Chris may still be interested in learning SDS, and suggested
101333 - I meet with Chris about this and about future work. He feels my work
101334 - has been helpful to PG&E, and so there may be future opportunities to
101335 - apply SDS, as contemplated in our agreement, ref SDS 1 line 131. Bill
101336 - feels a real challenge of introducing SDS is to impart the value
101337 - throughout the management chain, based on actual usage of the
101338 - program. We need more opportunities to create happy customers like
101339 - CDWR. Without this awareness created through experience, SDS is
101340 - difficult to explain (i.e., justify).
101341 -
101342 -
101343 - Over the remaining contract period, Bill wants me to teach Tito how
101344 - to access the SDS records on Gold Hill and CDWR.
101345 -
101346 - Bill said he and Chris want to be able to use the SDS record. They
101347 - feel it is a valuable project resource.
101348 -
101349 - We discussed that a major part of the value of SDS is continuing
101350 - the connectedness of unfolding events. Most current events are
101351 - primarily related to events within the past few days, then weeks,
101352 - then months. So within a few weeks, the apparent value is record
101353 - begins to drop off even though its actual value increases. Typical-
101354 - ly, if the SDS record is not maintained, busy managers begin to
101355 - fall back on personal recall, because the human mind is the only
101356 - other repository of "connectedness," i.e., knowledge.
101357 -
101358 -
101359 - We visited with Tito and Tom Marki. Set Friday afternoon, 941209,
101360 - after we meet on the SMUD contract negotiations, and next Tuesday,
101361 - after the meetings with SMUD on the Gold Hill contract, to work on
101362 - training. Bill suggests beginning with the conceptual training I did
101363 - for him.
101364 -
101365 -
101366 - Bill and I will consider joint opportunities after he completes his
101367 - retirement. He indicated he wants to learn SDS. I explained it will
101368 - be easier after he is no longer on the road so much.
