- On 080611 Rob initially indicated that Dell has a DOS emulator that
- can run 16-bit software on the Dell Intel 64-bit quad-core computer
- running Vista. ref SDS 3 EX4Y He later wrote and disclosed this was a
- mistake, ref SDS 3 K54K, that Intel made a mistake and prevented
- support for legacy line of business software, ref SDS 3 MP6L, citing

- Submitted ref DIT 1 0001 to Rob at Dell following up the letter to
- Dell on 080611, ref SDS 3 NS4I, and asking today about progress
- developing support for SDS on Intel quad-core 64-bit computer running
- Vista...
-
- 1. Following up on your research using Vista for 64-bit
- processors, you seemed to indicate in a letter on 080611 that
- Microsoft Vista does not support DOS 16-bit technology required
- for Knowledge Management.
- ..
- 2. I noticed today literature that seems to say there is a version
- of Windows XP for Intel 16-bit processors. Public articles
- say, however, that SDS won't run on Windows XP 64-bit version
- either. Another article says there is a lot of 16-bit
- proprietary software in the market place for "line of business"
- support....

-
- ...which takes a lot of time, and expense to upgrade. The
- people who developed the software are not around, so someone
- else must do the upgrade. Getting people to replicate software
- that has been working effectively for 10 or 20 years turns out
- to be more difficult than expected. These risks restrain
- computer sales of systems that do not support line of business
- software, like SDS.
- ..
- 3. Dell may be looking for a solution to boost sales? Would love
- to buy the computer you quoted the other day. At this time
- there is no use for it. We could email, check stuff on the
- Internet, but all of that stuff would have to somehow copied to
- a computer that runs SDS for managing the record. It's a
- dilemma.
-
- [On 080609 Dell reports selling Microsoft Vista 32-bit
- operating system for the quad-core 64-bit Intel computers,
- and feels this may solve problem of supporting legacy line
- of business 16-bit software like SDS. ref SDS 2 RU3H
