- Millie reported that last night while sleeping, or just before
- sleeping with her head on the pillow, she became aware of her heart
- beat suddenly increasing significantly. She had the sensation of
- hearing a sudden increased pulse rate. This only lasted 10 seconds or
- so. It was a startling new experience.
- ..
- She further related that in the past week or so, she recognized from a
- heart monitor she wears during aerobic exercise at the gym that her
- heart beat suddenly escalated significantly to about 200. She took
- the precaution of slowing her exercise compared to the class. Heart
- rate quickly reduced to normal below 140, as shown on the monitor.
- ..
- Hiking at Lafayette reservoir has a series of hills, some fairly
- steep. Millie has noticed that her heart rate sometimes increases to
- about 140 when climbing these hills, and then quickly settles back at
- the top of the incline to below the upper target of 130 for her age,
- then continues to drop into a range below 120.
- ..
- Recently, while hiking she experienced a spike to 202, then the rate
- subsided back to below 130, as usual.
-
- [On 081012 pulse elevated to maximum of 224, and remained
- high for most of 2 laps, then returned to normal on the 3rd
- lap. ref SDS 6 FL7M
- ..
- There have been no evident physicial effects from reported increases
- in heart rate. Except for "hearing" the increased pulse in bed, the
- one increase while working out in the gym, and the increase yesterday
- while hiking the reservoir did not affect performance in any way. She
- did not actually feel her pulse increase, for example with heavier
- breathing or extra effort, she did not over heat -- felt nothing. It
- seemed that only the heart monitor registered the spike.
- ..
- Last year, Millie had several similar experiences of the heart monitor
- reporting severe spikes while hiking at Lafayette reservoir. At that
- time, Millie believed the heart monitor was defective, because, like
- these two recent episodes, she was not aware of physicial sensation
- that might reflect actual severe increased heart rate. She changed
- the batteries and exchanged or replaced some of the equipment. This
- seemed to resolve repeated, but occassional severe spikes in heart
- rate, until the most recent episodes, per above. ref SDS 0 PQ6L
- ..
- Concern about heart rate elevated with the experience of "hearing"
- pulse increase while in bed, so far on just one occassion. Prior
- concerns reported to medical team shown in case study on 071228.
- ref SDS 2 HX4F
- ..
- This raises a question about whether the equipment was really
- defective, or whether some condition is beginning to form to cause
- periodic short-term heart problems that should be reviewed? Possible
- correlations with medical tests reporting cardio-pulminary issues

- Research on arterial fibulations says in part...
-
- Arterial fibulation is the general term used to describe a
- variety of disorders in the electrical workings of the heart.
- The two most common forms of arterial fibulation are atrial
- fibulation and ventricular fibulation.
- ..
- Arterial fibulation affects the way muscles in the heart beat,
- causing them to quiver or flutter rather instead, when the
- electrical rhythm of the heart malfunctions. As we age we
- become more susceptible to heart disorders characterized by
- fibulations, as our natural pacemakers which are built into
- our hearts begin to lose their rhythm. In a healthy heart
- there is an electrical charge that follows a path through the
- heart about 60 to 100 times per minute. As this electrical
- charge finds its way from one side of the heart to the other,
- the muscles it comes in contact with contract. When this works
- right the muscles contract in unison, causing the heart to
- beat. When the electrical signal is disrupted it can lead to
- arterial fibulations in the heart.
