-
- Gary made good progress on developing a PERL script that significantly
- automates converting a Powerpoint file into a file with anchors that
- is configured for linking to SDS and can be converted into HTML for
- common communication with others. ref SDS 0 AF8I Gary called this
- afternoon, and we discussed slight modification to the PERL script.
- ref SDS 0 YZ7M The record for the SoS meeting on 030415 is available

- Received ref DRt 1 0001 from Gary saying.....
-
- 1. Outlook keeps resetting the properties to Rich text. I tried to
- resend it, but apparently didn't work.
- ..
- Gary's letter comes into Netscape as HTML text that is triple spaced,
- which is odd, because as noted below, the attachment now comes through
- correctly as a zip file. ref SDS 0 FS63 But, if he sends an email in
- plain text, the attachment comes through as an HTML file. Email in
- HTML can be converted fairly easily to a file that works for SDS.

- ..
- 4. I ran a Perl script (fmt_ppt_01.pl) developed for the purpose
- to create an SDS OF (not wrapped yet) (sds_Outl.txt), which
- imports into SDS using g sds_Outl.txt with no problem.

- Powerpoint Conversion Excellent Need Edits to PERL
-
- Gary produced an excellent file for integrating with SDS, and is
- placed in the project record as follows....
-
- F: 03 00101 BK CC 030415 PHFC
-
- ....which is Bruce Mamont's Powerpoint File. ref OF 1 0001
-
- Later in the afternoon, Gary sent another zip file when he got
- home from work. It appears to be identical to the first one,
- which is not file in the project record. Need to know from Gary
- if there is a difference that needs attention, or to replace what
- is now on file?
- ..
- My initial sense is that the RTF and the MS DOS text files are no
- longer needed; they are only a means to an end, and so these are not
- saved to the permenant record.
- ..
- This a big step on bridging the gap between the two worlds of IT and
- KM, per planning on 030408.
- ..
- Gary's PERL script looks helpful; for now will begin stacking these
- up in....
-
- c: 01 05
-
- ...which is a new directory that supplemnets existing SDS development
- tools. PERL may be something to learn that supplements Medit.
- ..
- Edits to PERL Script
-
- A few ideas to consider for editing the PERL script to format a
- Powerpoint file....
-
- 1. We need header information at the top of each file that shows
- date and other identification as a formal document of the
- project. This can be added manually;, ref OF 1 0000; however,
- does this occur anywhere in the PPT file that can be captured
- for ID? I opened the ppt file and nothing is evident. In this
- file it looks like page 1 is a picture with Bruce Mamont's
- name. So, ID can be generated manually from that, if
- necessary.
- ..
- 2. Can the PERL script be modified to put the outline beginning
- on column 6 so that ouline bullet numbers above 9 land on
- column 5, which fits the SDS outline code? Right now the left
- margin is column 4, and when we get to 10, it is 3, but we
- need a minimum of 5
-
- [...Gary later modified the PERL script to accomplish this
- format requirement.]
- ..
- 3. Would be interesting to use alternate outline structure
- formats besides a bullet, but that is what the Powerpoint file
- shows, so this is not a big issue.
- ..
- Gary concludes...
- ..
- 4. I'll try to get this thing to behave.
- ..
- Would be great if we can a system that does not take so many tries
- each time to send a file.

-
- Gary called and advised that his SDS records are on the web, and
- include a record he started for the TEMs on 030415. He feels the
- first cut may be a little too long.
- ..
- We reviewed planning to generate records that adequately reflect
- taking follow up action, and to submit a summary connected to the
- details so that people can get more context and access support if
- needed.
