- Gary wanted to add a contact to the Aerospace company contact record today, so he
- could receive an email from a colleage in the next cubicle.
- ..
- He has worked with contacts, but not lately and so we went through an
- exercise together on the phone.
- ..
- Initially, I forgot that Gary has my SDS records and so he already has
- a contact record for Aerospace company with his name. As a result of overlooking
- this history, we started by creatig a new Contact record for Aerospace company
- and adding his name and the name of another person.
- ..
- After this exercise, we did a list for Aerospace company and found there were two
- of them in Gary's records. I then realized what was up. We deleted
- teh new recod just complete. We opened the existing contact record
- for Aerospace company and added the name of Gary's colleague in the next cubicle.
- ..
- While we were at it, we entered a Department name and symbol for the
- doc log.
- ..
- We then opened an SDS record. Gary found a prior record on the
- subject of the new email he received, and used that record to make a
- new Scheduled task to received the letter from his colleague, Malcolm.
- He converted the Schedule task into a Diary record, and opened the
- record.
- ..
- Gary advised that while we talked, he also added a new subject for
- the letter he received today from Malcolm.
- ..
- He moved the cursor to a blank line and pressed F6 a few times to
- make some blank lines.
- ..
- He then typed....
-
- Received
- ..
- With the cursor at the end of the work "Received," he pressed F1 F5 to
- initiative the Doc Log format for received documents. Since the first
- format is for Documents Received Today, this ended this step, so he
- pressed ESC (or F1) to return to the primary profile level 1.
- ..
- Gary pressed Shift F3 to jump the cursor back to the end of the word
- Received, which is his starting postion in the narrative field. He
- scrolled the record and moved the cursor the line
-
- [On 030319 Gary submitted a list of colleagues at Aerospace company to enter
- into the Aerospace company contact list. ref SDS 42 599I

-
- Gary indicated that he has not transferred his SDS records from the
- office to his home computer. He does not have a notebook computer,
- but plans to use a hard drive of some kind to download from his office
- computer, and then transfer from the protable hard drive to his home
- computer, which should work fine using our standard transfer
- protocols. Since this has not been done so far over the past month
- or so since he started, this means SDS records on the office computer
- are out of sync with this home computer.
- ..
- SDS has not been deployed in this manner.
- ..
- Since SDS augments intelligence to improve the ability to think,
- remember and communicate, and since thinking, remembering and
- communicating is a constant process in the mind everywhere, a lot of
- thinking and remembering about work occurs at home. Therefore the
- body of records that aids thinking needs to be at hand for capturing
- and refining knowledge, and for planning and doing work, when time
- permits. This does not require becoming a "slave" to SDS, but rather
- maximizing opportunity for benefiting from the record, whenever time
- and inclination line up.
