Dear Doug,
Thanks for your letter yesterday submitting references to your early work setting the stage for the current project.
On December 22, 1999 review of your paper on Groupware published in 1992 showed promising objectives.
Yesterday, review of your paper in 1972 on Coordinated Information Services for a Discipline- or Mission-Oriented Community, and subsequent work, revealed a lineage of ideas that support the commonly held notion of "enlightenment." While the journey is by no means smooth sailing, as they say, I am pleased to be traveling in the company of a strong leader, and delighted that others are joining your crusade. A few comments on "alignment" emerged from reviewing your work.
Has consideration been given to hearing from our friends in the cognitive science community on designing technology that aligns with human capabilities. George Millier's seminal work in 1954 on limited span of attention, seems promising, based on review March 3, 1999.
More recently, Tom Landauer's work with LSA on understanding knowledge acquisition, might give guidance on fashioning tools to augment human capabilities in creating and maintaining a knowledge repository, reviewed on March 21, 1996.
Sincerely,
THE WELCH COMPANY
Rod Welch
