Communication Metrics

Dear Chip,

Thanks for the story on Deming. I've included notes from a conference last year that may reflect Mr. Deming's perspective on TQM. See what you think.

I sent you a letter asking about incorporating "communication metrics" into existing programs, as opposed to a dedicated course. Since the Internet is not "Fool Proof" within Edward Teller's definition, this letter confirms my points.

What about a conference, or seminar on "executive communications"? Not just "communication" because then you get stuff on how to build a short wave radio, "Friendly LANs," etc.

Our aim is how to convert "information" into "knowledge". It is topical because of the Information Highway. It is cogent because of the worry in executive suites that all of the increased information is not improving productivity. This is not etherial. People are loosing their jobs, their homes, their families because the world is changing in ways that require leveraging human capacity to think, remember and communicate. It is better to "re-engineer" by adding value to human potential, rather than by recycling people to McDonalds to sell hamburgers. This is what communicatiion metrics is about. Why not take a crack and it?

Sincerely,

THE WELCH COMPANY
