Subject:   Volitional Partners and SDS

Dear Greg,

Thanks for your letter asking about the record on June 29, 2002 concerning Volitional Partners. Your extra effort investing the time to provide context with a link to the record that prompted your inquiry shows progress toward a culture of knowledge to improve productivity and earnings, as related in a recent letter on July 26, responding to similar inquiry about SDS records on the Internet.
..
Answering your question about putting the record of daily work on the Internet, please note that sensitive, confidential information has been redacted.
..
What you saw provides common understanding among affected parties that strengthens listening, so that errors do not creep into organizational memory from retelling that occurs in stream-of-conscious communication like calls, meetings and email. Mistakes due to meaning drift are reduced, and this saves time and money, as related in POIMS.
..
The concept of using technology to improve communication was discussed at Intel on September 27, 1997.
..
Putting records of work history on the Internet helps solve common problems, like going to the doctor, fixing the car, mowing lawn, conducting a lawsuit, conducting a meeting, designing a bridge, etc., all have common elements which aid continual learning. Examples solving big problems, and solving small problems so they don't get big, were reported earlier this year on July 8.
..
The US Army Corps of Engineers reported Communication Metrics supported by SDS adds value to lessons learned so, again, I am glad you found the record was useful, adding weight to findings by the government.
..
Sincerely,

THE WELCH COMPANY
