- Summary/Objective
-
- Follow up ref SDS 14 0000, ref SDS 13 0000.
-
- As a result of continuing system warnings for c11 during boot
- sequence, I removed the CPU with the cooling fan attached. Millie and
- I drove to Fry's in Palo Alto on Portage road, off of El Camino about
- 4 blocks south of Page Mille Road.
-
- Like in the case of CPU10 two weeks ago, the Fry's sales clerk was
- able to find a fan that fit our CPU. ref SDS 14 7104
-
- The first sales clerk, a woman, was not helpful. She picked out
- several fans, but was unable to connect them to veryify they work
- properly. She suggested we talk to another person.
-
- The second salesman found several different models, and tried them to
- make sure they fit. He removed the heat sink and fan system from the
- Pentium processor, which was more difficult than on CPU10. ref SDS 14
- 0001 The connection was a snap in system, rather than levers, and so
- it required a lot of delicate work to apply enough pressure to remove
- the connection without damaging the CPU.
-
- Finally, got it to release, so we could remove it.
-
- He demonstrated how a new unit could be installed. This unit has a
- lever that is easier to install and remove the heat sink.
-
- Purchased on invoice ref DRT 1 4937 dated today. It cost $40, which
- is $10 more than the cooling fan for CPU10.
-
- Millie helped install it back at the apartment.
-
- Small fingers work better.
-
- The system boots up normally, although it took two trys to make sure
- the CPU is firmly seated in the slot.
-
- The CMOS now shows 4800 RPM for the CPU fan, which is a big
- improvement from the record on 990819 showing only 1500 RPM.
