0505 - Summary/Objective
0506 -
050601 - Follow up ref SDS 7 0000, ref SDS 5 0000.
050602 -
050603 - Looks like the problems with the SDS program have been solved, and
050604 - Wayne is using the new tools.
050605 -
050606 - Received ref DRT 1 0000 from Wayne responding to my letter ref DIP 6
050607 - 0000 sent on 980728. ref SDS 5 0000 The updated code solved the
050608 - "save" problem reported in his letter dated 980729, ref DRP 1 0000,
050609 - received on 980729, ref SDS 7 0000. He was able to find a current
050610 - version of pkunzip on the Internet, which solved the problem reported
050611 - on 980713. ref SDS 3 0000
050612 -
050613 - Wayne's letter had an incorrect URL address, but I found the correct
050614 - record on the Web using the SDS data structure.

0510 -
051001 - DNRC Delivers "Intelligence" using Communication Metrics and Internet
051002 -
051003 - Wayne's letter is linked to his SDS record. He did not use the SDS
051004 - document and correspondence system to create the letter in his SDS
051005 - record and upload it along with the SDS record to the Web site.
051006 -
051007 - But getting the SDS record on the Web site is huge.
051008 -
051009 - When I clicked on the address in Wayne's email the browser returned an
051010 - error message. The User ID for the URL address in his email is
051011 - incorrect. ref DRT 1 1880 It shows 01001 and it should be 01002,
051012 - which is a common typo error that occurs when entering long strings.
051013 -
051014 - The function F1 F1 F7 in SDS correspondence helps solve this by
051015 - entering most of the URL address and proving a template, so the sure
051016 - need only enter the unique SDS ID stuff.
051017 -
051018 - To get Wayne's SDS record, ref SDS 8 0000, I opened my records on the
051019 - web site to a directory level above the User ID, and stepped backward
051020 - to the User ID field, and then selected his user ID. Stepped forward
051021 - by date to today, and found his record.
051022 -
051023 - The mistake, however, demonstrates strength in error recovery
051024 - based on using the date chronology structure of the SDS data base,
051025 - which provides an easy path to specific records.
051026 -
051027 -
051028 - Wayne's SDS record has the Welch Company letterhead.
051029 -
051030 - I need to let him know about...
051031 -
051032 - 1. The new tools to select his DNRC letterhead, created on 980526.
051033 - ref SDS 1 0000 This was enhanced on 980527 so it is easy for
051034 - a User to select a desired letterhead. ref SDS 2 0000
051035 -
051036 - I called Wayne this afternoon and explained this procedure. see
051037 - below. ref SDS 0 4480
051038 -
051039 - 2. How to use email to send HTML correspondence created in SDS, so
051040 - he can use the SDS tools to post URL addresses for links, and
051041 - then test them on-line inadvace of using email to deliver the
051042 - "intelligence."
051043 -
051044 - [On 980803 did this. ref SDS 9 1674]
051045 -
051046 - I want to integrate Wayne's SDS record on the Web into my local
051047 - records so that the analysis is on-line in SDS, with all of the SDS
051048 - tools available.
051049 -
051050 - One problem with this is SDS and file addresses are removed from the
051051 - Reference field prior to posting on the Web. It may be possible to
051052 - create a processor to at least construct these fields in a downloaded
051053 - SDS record based on links in the SDS record.
051054 -
051055 - Will try to download the record as ASCII, and also in HTML, then see
051056 - which is the easier to get into SDS standard format.
051057 -
051058 - 1. When I opened the downloaded SDS record in HTML format, it is
051059 - double spaced for some reason.
051060 -
051061 - 2. The text version seems easier to convert.
051062 -
051063 - We can do a macro to reconstruct record ID, description,
051064 - Reference and Control fields.
051065 -
051066 - We can adopt the User's ID or generate in a library of people
051067 - with whom we interact with SDS records.
051068 -
051069 - Actually, this may all be obviated, because User can submit
051070 - the actual SDS record itself, as I do for Bill DeHart.
051071 -
051072 - 3. I have omitted the seconds field from the Web record because it
051073 - seems burdensome; so it either needs to be added, or it can be
051074 - generated locally on the grounds that this is now a different
051075 - record.
051076 -
051077 - Actually that is not so. Seconds are used to generate the Web
051078 - site filename, so when the file is downloaded, we can get the
051079 - seconds from the filename using the new command Morris created
051080 - on 980722. ref SDS 4 0000
051081 -
051082 - Here we get into some philosophy which needs some carefull
051083 - consideration. Is this Wayne's record, which I am using, or is
051084 - it my record and so I can assign it differently to establish
051085 - uniqueness from Wayne's record?
051086 -
051087 - 4. How doe we assign subjects?
051088 -
051089 - The local user (the recipient) can assign custom subjects so it
051090 - easy to lookup. Do we need the sender's subjects, so the
051091 - integrity of the record remains intact.
051092 -
051093 - 5. Once the record is constructed, it is a simple matter to use
051094 - savx to create the directory structure for it and put in the
051095 - local SDS data base.
051096 -
051097 - It can then be listed as an SDS reference and linked in the
051098 - current record.
051099 - ..
051100 - 6. Another problem is that if the User ID is different, then
051101 - the SDS code needs to look for a record with the current date
051102 - in the archived data base instead of the current Schedule
051103 - directory.
051104 -
051105 - I was able to create an SDS record in my data base and link it into
051106 - this record, but cannot open the link until tomorrow, because of point
051107 - 6. ref SDS 0 0000

051110 - Wayne Solved Unzip problem by Getting Current Program from Internet
051111 -
051112 - Follow up ref SDS 3 3024.
051113 -
051114 - He looked up pkzip on the Internet and found the vendor's site. He
051115 - was able to download version 2.04g for DOS. He found that zu.exe on
051116 - his computer is version 1.1. So he tried the new version and it
051117 - worked.
051118 -
051119 - I checked and found that we have zu version 2.04g. This was sent to
051120 - Wayne on 980713, ref SDS 3 1980, and it failed. Moreover it is
051121 - unclear why zu.exe on his computer would be version 1.1 after sending
051122 - him version 2.04g.
051123 -
051124 - One possibility is that there is more than one copy of zu.exe on
051125 - Wayne's computer and the one that is executing is in a directory
051126 - that us higher up in the path chain.
051127 -
051128 - The good news is that he made good use of the Internet to solve a
051129 - problem.

051133 - SDS Program "Save" Problem Solved by Updated SDS Files
051134 -
051135 - Follow up ref SDS 7 0000.
051136 -
051137 - After he installed cs.zip, F2 "save" did not work. He then installed
051138 - css.zip, which restored the entire c: sd 03 directory. This solved
051139 - the problem.
051140 -
051141 - It indicates that the update operation somehow got out of sync.
051142 -
051143 - This should now be solved, so that future updates should be correct.
