-
- Followed up work at ref SDS 23 line 100.
-
- Bill said he was in his office last week and was able to review the
- cost savings report, ref DRP 5 line 23, issued by USACE, ref SDS 25
- line 100, that I delivered, ref SDS 27 line 78.
-
- He feels it is very effective in helping people grasp the value added
- of Communication Metrics.

- Gordon Smith at PG&E Needs Communication Help
-
- Followed up work at ref SDS 23 line 123.
-
- Bill has not submitted suggestions to improve communication at PG&E
- because, as an outside consultant, he needs to work through his
- contacts at PG&E and they have not had enough time to review the
- recommendations to use Communication Metrics.
-
- [See follow up at ref SDS 29 line 112.]
-
- ..
- Bill's Project under Review at PG&E
-
- He said his group at PG&E has been involved in budget and business
- charter reviews the past few weeks. Their aim is to show increased
- market and earnings potential and gain approval for continued support
- by PG&E management.
-
- Bill feels they make a good case. He expects the team will get an
- answer on their business plans for the next year, by the end of the
- month.
-
- He feels this will be a good time to propose Communciation Metrics to
- improve earnings potential.
-
- [See follow up on 971110, ref SDS 32 line 130.]

- Sprint Contacts Need Notice of Communication Metrics
-
- Bill is meeting with Sprint this week.
-
- I suggested he submit to an appropriate Sprint contact a copy of the
- USACE cost savings report, ref DRP 5 line 23, and highlight key
- passages on savings and improved management.
-
- He can explain having received the report because he used
- Communication Metrics several years ago and had successful results.
- The cost savings potential reported by USACE may be useful to Sprint
- in improving its results on this complex project.
-
- Bill indicated this is a good approach.
-
- [See letter confirming these ideas, ref SDS 30 line 98.]
-
- [See telecon on 971105 where Bill talked to Sprint about
- Communication Metrics, but has not submitted the government
- reports, ref SDS 31 line 90.]

- Business Proecss Plan for Discussion Group
-
- I sent Bill an email the other day with suggestions for the Web page.
-
- I suggested a clearer indication of the home page, possibly with the
- picture of the President and a welcoming statement, plus a call for
- volunteers with a link to a page listing volunteer needs.
-
- Another idea was to develop a source of input on subjects for the
- Discussion Group.
-
- He about preparing a draft procedure for managing the Discussion
- Group.
-
- Bill advised that Roger Bush has not fulfilled the host role, and
- has not responded to Bill's calls and other efforts to contact him.
- Bill recalled that Roger volunteered to be the Discussion Host and
- suggested the topic.
-
- We did not consider if Roger may be ill or otherwise incapcitated.
- Even if he is out of town on business, he could still spend a few
- minutes on-line to perform the Host role.
-
- We considered a couple of ideas:
-
- 1. Subjects can come from suggestions by the membership.
-
- However, subjects ought not to depend on suggestions, since
- none may come. We do not want to abdicate responsibility to
- select a topic that is important to current themes in project
- management.
-
- 2. Bill wants discussion input to be entered on a form designed
- for the writer to prepare a few lines of summary in addition to
- a subject that can be used for the top level of the discussion
- Web page.
-
- We considered giving users the option to identify correlation
- to project management practice, industry, management level,
- PMBOK section and so on.
-
- 3. We considered developing a pool of Hosts from the speakers and
- from the Executive Committee. We can also ask for volunteers.
- Potential hosts can then select from the pool of subjects what
- to conduct the following two weeks discussion group on.
-
- We need a way to attract qualified hosts, to avoid
- overburdening them, and to have backups when the host is not
- available, or otherwise does not perform.
-
- 4. It might be possible to permit multiple subjects to be tracked,
- depending upon the level of interest that results.
-
- 5. We could start a subject for a week, and if there is minimal
- activity, then close it after two or three days with no
- activity.
-
- We need a format, if any exist, for procedures developed by others
- for PMI NCC.
-
- Also need any additional input from Bill on scope of the process.
