051001 - Tom answered the phone. he said Max was taking another call. I called
051002 - back later and Max was out. I called again and he had another call,
051003 - so I walked to the COE SFD to visit.

0513 - 1315 Discussion with Max and Tom
0514 -
051401 - Max has read the letter ref DIP 1 line 29 per our discussion at ref
051402 - SDS 11 line 44, explaining the Asilomar event. Today, I delivered the
051403 - revised event agenda ref OF 1 line 28, prepared yesterday at ref SDS
051404 - 12 line 132. Max said the speaker slate is very impressive. He is
051405 - anxious to get the Welch contract going so he and the Corps can gain
051406 - the experience to comment on Communication Metrics. Max said he or
051407 - Tom could contribute on a panel at Asilomar based on such experience.
051408 - ..
051409 - Max said he is very interested to see how Welch and SDS will
051410 - apply past history to current events. He said this part of
051411 - Communication Metrics seems especially challenging, per our discussion
051412 - at ref SDS 2 line 154, and with Tom at ref SDS 4 line 277.
051413 -
051414 - Max noted that the Corps of Engineers manages projects at a higher
051415 - level of detail than does Turner. He said the notes of the meeting
051416 - with Turner shows an important perspective on construction management
051417 - in calling for wider application of methods based on a changing work
051418 - environment.
051419 -
051420 - Max said there is not any obvious way in which the Corps can
051421 - contribute to speaker fees for Asilomar. The Corps can only finance
051422 - the cost of its employees who might attend and/or speak at the event.
051423 -
051424 - Tom was meeting with and he generally concurred with Max's
051425 - understanding. He seemed to indicate there might be a way to make a
051426 - request for funding, but I decided not to pursue this course.
051427 -
051428 - Tom advised that General Hatch was not the "Commandant" of the Corps
051429 - of Engineers. He was the Chief Engineer, Corps of Engineers.
051430 -
051431 - (I made this change.)

080607 - expects this will take about 2 weeks to process.
080608 -
080609 - When I visited their office later in the afternoon. Tom met with Max
080610 - and I briefly in discussion the Asilomar matter. Max asked about

080612 - budget authority for the Welch scope (possibly mentioned "LTS"
080613 - account), but not for the levee inspection work. He advised that a
080614 - request for additional funding will be submitted this week.
