1112 - Summary/Objective
1113 -
111301 - He has not been using Contacts to get the last record in order to make
111302 - a new one. Wayne finds the default Diary summary is generally ade-
111303 - quate for this. He has been trying to remember to post the contact to
111304 - each SDS record where appropriate, but so far has not used the Contact
111305 - report system to get records to make follow up records.
111306 -
111307 - He is mainly using the SDS Schedule to integrate all of his business
111308 - and personal activity.
111309 -
111310 - He is not doing a lot of analysis of events in the Diary.
111311 -

111314 - Admin Support of SDS
111315 -
111316 - We discussed briefly the possibility of Wayne getting people to help
111317 - him enter the record, especially the document log of received docu-
111318 - ments. He said DNRC recently purchased a scanner, but feels the pros-
111319 - pects are not good at this time for him to get more admin assistance.
111320 - We considered using Broadwater funding. Wayne said they removed the
111321 - secretarial slot that was provided last year, and so politically, even
111322 - if funding was available, this is not a good time for him to assume
111323 - more staff.

111329 - Writing Everything Down
111330 -
111331 - Wayne said that as result of being out of the office during the
111332 - Broadwater arbitration, Mike has gotten away from using SDS to keep
111333 - track of activity on the plant, and has been concerned about my
111334 - finding this out for fear I will be disappointed.
111335 -
111336 - I explained that of course I am disappointed but will not say anything
111337 - that might cause Mike discomfort. I know SDS is a complex tool that
111338 - takes effort to stay with. Mike has had to study for the PE exam, and
111339 - so may have felt there wasn't enough time to do SDS.
111340 -
111341 - Suggested that Wayne remind Mike in an appropriate manner that it is
111342 - not necessary to beat your brains out trying to write everything down,
111343 - or to go back and enter everything when circumstances take you away
111344 - from the computer for a period, as occurred with Mike. Just entering
111345 - information and "to do" items when practical, makes SDS a very handy
111346 - source of helpful information.

111701 - Left message for Debbie for Mike. I want to ask if he got the
111702 - solution I submitted the other day at, ref SDS 4 line 56, and if it
111703 - worked, per my submission at ref DIP 1 line 34.

Smartdrv

1808 -
180801 - He has still encountered periodic crashes of SDS. He thinks now
180802 - these may be related to a screen saver routine in Windows. He has
180803 - noticed a few times when he returns to his office and tries SDS after
180804 - the screen save program has executed while he was away, that he gets
180805 - a crash.
180806 -
180807 - It seems to me this may be related to memory management and a possible
180808 - conflict with TSR's, rather than a problem with SDS or the
180809 - smartdrv.exe, which we focused on last time, ref SDS 2 line 84. I
180810 - configured the screen saver on CPU #3, under Windows, using the
180811 - Control icon, and then "Desktop." After installing it, tried loading
180812 - a bunch of files, but could not get it to crash. Did get screen saver
180813 - to function.

180818 - Autoexec.bat & Smartdrv.exe
180819 -
180820 - Wayne said he asked if anyone disconnected smartdrv.exe in his
180821 - autoexec.bat, and none of the DNRC people could recall doing it.
180822 - Someone suggested the installation program for the ethernet card may
180823 - have done it.
180824 -
180825 - I suggested he connect it with the /c param we discussed last time on
180826 - 930518. ref SDS 2 YG6F

SUBJECTS
DNRC Broadwater, Voith
Arbitration

1905 - ..
190501 - They have received findings of facts and conclusions of law.
190502 - DNRC feels the findings are inadequate because the arbitrators held
190503 - that the speed increaser failed after substantial completion, in Sep
190504 - 89, but they did not rule on the cause of the failure. DNRC believes
190505 - the speed increaser failed when it exceeded contract specifications
190506 - for noise levels, and that this condition existed (i.e. it was
190507 - excessively noisy) in July, 89, rather than after after substantial
190508 - completion which occurred in October, 1989. Thus, 2 - 3 months of
190509 - presumed dam- ages were not recovered by DNRC, plus collateral damages
190510 - as a result of Voith's failure to ever accomplish substantial
190511 - completion, as a result of the panel's unwillingness to confront the
190512 - cause of speed increaser failure.
190513 -
190514 - DNRC feels the arbitrator's incorrect award may reflect an effort by
190515 - the panel to encourage DNRC to recover for lost revenue while the SI
190516 - is being repaired, maybe another $800K, from their insurance carrier.
190517 - DNRC feels that this may not be possible since their carrier has
190518 - already expressed the opinion that the problem with the SI occurred
190519 - before substantial completion.
190520 - ..
190521 - Wayne said they are considering appealing the decision.
