0404 - ..
0405 - Summary/Objective
0406 -
040601 - We are making pretty good progress. Wayne is using my records to
040602 - create comments, so we can communicate carefully without having to tie
040603 - up each other's time per the POIMS concept.
040604 -
040605 - Wayne needs a little more experinece on deleting the old narrative and
040606 - simply citing it, so there is not a lot of duplication when he uses an
040607 - old record to make a new one.
040608 -
040609 - He has reviewed Mike Sims' comments, ref SDS 1, and indicates approval
040610 - of progress. There remains concern about adopting SDS unless more
040611 - widespread use (he cites Sarah, Walt, Rick) is attained. Wayne
040612 - considers possibility of Mike training others.
040613 -
040614 - Comment
040615 -
040616 - Another possibility is that if Wayne continues to make progress,
040617 - then belief in others will accrue as the results become apparent,
040618 - and/or Wayne can simply select particular situations and individu-
040619 - als he determines would most benefit from this capability, to
040620 - assign that task of learning the skill in the same way that one
040621 - assigns others to learn Lotus 123, Autocad, etc.

File Access System, F1 F3

1008 - Summary/Objective
1009 -
100901 - Explained more on outline procedures, underlinging and indenting
100902 - headings. Showed how to access line draw with F1 F1 F2, then use F1
100903 - to get back to profile level 1.
100904 -
100905 - Wayne has a good feel for using F7 to return to the beginning of an
100906 - outline level.
100907 -
100908 -
100909 - Showed how to use Alt F4 in the Schedule Summary to move a single
100910 - line, and F5 to mark the target location for the task to be moved.
100911 -
100912 -
100913 -
100914 - Wayne seems to have File Access down pretty well to open a Diary
100915 - Summary for my records from his data base environement in order to
100916 - pull one of my records in to make a task for commenting on my work.
100917 - Of course he can do this with Mike's records also.
100918 -
100919 - File Access menu can only be opened through the menu in the
100920 - Schedule Summary, but F1 F3 opens it in an SDS record in addition
100921 - to the Menu.

New Tasks and Linking

1407 - Summary/Objective
1408 -
140801 - We went through this carefully today, with Wayne punching the keys.
140802 -
140803 -
140804 - Create Wayne's SI
140805 -
140806 - I showed him how to use the Voith contract SI. The tasks with * are
140807 - the main ones now.
140808 -
140809 - We need to sit down with DNRC admin people and/or Wayne to create a
140810 - representative executive set of subjects.
140811 -
140812 - I explained general concept of correlating to main DNRC operations
140813 - levels, e.g. Director's office, Energy, Water, etc.
140814 -
140815 -
140816 - Accessing Primary SI
140817 -
140818 - Created a task with instructions on this on how to access the Primary
140819 - SI level.
140820 -
140821 -
140822 - Reports
140823 -
140824 - Explained how to use SI to find the last record on a particular
140825 - subject so it can be used to report on or schedule a new task for new
140826 - action. F1 F9 from within the SI opens a report screen to write the
140827 - program.
140828 -
140829 - F1 Shift F1 makes a new task and links the source record to the
140830 - new record created.
140831 -
140832 -
140833 - Linking Records
140834 -
140835 - Explained how to use F1 Alt F5 to mark a record for linking, and to
140836 - open another record and enter F1 Shift F2 to make it a link in the
140837 - marked record.

Writing a Letter
Document Log, F1 F9
Document Log
Murphy's Law, avoiding mistakes

1909 - ..
190901 - Discussed ideas for lining up the help Wayne needs to get the
190902 - documents entered into the doc log.
190903 -
190904 - Wayne expects that the inadequacy of Power's doc management "system
190905 - will soon be evident, and at that point DNRC can begin applying the
190906 - SDS system. I indicated the problem of trying to go back and create
190907 - the record when it is not entered everyday. This is a big task that
190908 - no one wants to do, so it never gets done, and people wind up losing
190909 - money, their job, and then blame "Murphy."
190910 -
190911 - [On 941020 discussed cause of problems. ref SDS 9 6007.]
190912 -
190913 - We considered the importance of the SDS system requiring that a
190914 - letter cannot be created without first defining it within the doc
190915 - log, so it forces the user to perform the 5 to 10 seconds of
190916 - management required.
190917 -
190918 - Discussed options for getting support through Patty to get all of the
190919 - DNRC Broadwater documents and all of Wayne's other docs entered into
190920 - the system.
