230969 - 10. On another matter, may have mentioned previously, I fell last
230970 - year on 150916, hiking Half Dome, about a third of the way up
230971 - nearing Nevada Falls. Was hospitalized 4 days, and took 4
230972 - months to recover with outpatient care. This was 2 years in a
230973 - row failing to reach the top of Half Dome.

230976 - 11. In May fell again on just a minor situation. Neurology
230977 - investigated and eventually diagnosed BPPV, a form of
230978 - dizziness, where in my case, turning my head in a certain way
230979 - caused loss of balance. On July 7, the VA resolved this,
230980 - however, a month earlier on 160617, was diagnosed with a
230981 - stroke. This was a major medical project with complications.
230982 - On August 2nd, hired Stanford Neuroscience for 2nd opinion.
230983 - Stanford determined there were temporal brain changes that
230984 - occurred after an EGD dilation procedure on 160617, but there
230985 - was no actual stroke, despite findings of the MRI saying a
230986 - stroke occurred. Since all clinical symptoms resolved in 2
230987 - days (left side vision and motor control deficits), this has
230988 - been an interesting mystery for Neurology at the VA (which is
230989 - UCSF) to identify the cause. Stanford says anesthesia during
230990 - EGD procedure most likely caused symptoms. The VA
230991 - understandably is reluctant to admit their work is at issue.
230992 - Since I need EGD dilations regularly to treat achalasia, in
230993 - fact since August, have had 8 more procedures, so making
230994 - adjustments to sedation protocols in my case remains a major
230995 - concern. Another procedure is scheduled Jan 6th.

230998 - 12. Only mention all this, because 3 months after diagnosis of
230999 - stroke, and treatment to avoid falling from dizziness, reached
231000 - the top of Half Dome again - see attached pictures - another
231001 - "precarious" adventure. All the more so, because blew out the
231002 - right knee twice; once on June 22nd, and 3 weeks later on July
231003 - 15. MRI on August 5th, shows right tibia is fractured near the
231004 - top at the knee. The knee has a bunch more issues, e.g. torn
231005 - meniscus, torn MCL, bone marrow edema, etc. Still, somehow on
231006 - that one day (Sep 14th), nothing hurt the entire hike - seems
