- sunitinib staying at full strength and reducing or ending treatment

-
- [On 081223 Doctor Stritter responded to Millie's letter
- on 081220 submitting procedures for second opinion
- support. ref SDS 10 8N9M
- ..
- Millie's letter to Doctor Stritter says...
-
- 1. Subject: Meeting Agenda at Kaiser Dec 19th
- Date: Sat, 20 Dec 2008 21:06:49 -0800
- ..
- 3. Here is another letter to my primary care physician at Kaiser,
- ref SDS 8 KY8Q, that set the agenda for discussions at Kaiser
- on Friday, 081219, following up meeting the day before on
- Thursday at UCSF with Doctor Rugo and her team. ref SDS 7 4P7F
- ..
- 4. I meet with Doctor Johnson every 8 weeks for oversight of UCSF
- support for my care.
- ..
- 5. The letter presents complex challenges patients and doctors
- face sorting through conflicting choices in order to optimize
- recovery. This is an area where your skills could be very
- helpful, because the missing ingredient is lack of time for
- deliberation.
-
- [On 081223 Doctor Stritter responded to Millie's letter
- on 081220 noting Millie's case is quite complicated, and
- submitting procedures for second opinion support.
- ref SDS 10 8N9M
- ..
- 6. Doctor Johnson seemed to say that cyclophosphamide may not be
- contributing much to my recovery, since cancer cells on my 5th
- relapse may now be resistant after having 6 or so treatments
- beginning in 2002 and again in early 2005. ref SDS 9 4R49 He
- further indicated that since sunitinib is a "targeted" drug,
- cyclophosphamide chemotherapy is likely causing most of the bad
- side effects, and so nominally should be cut back before trying
- to reduce sunitinib. He went on to indicate that the decision
- at UCSF on 081218 to initially cut back sunitinib may have
- related to the protocol for the study, such that to continue
- getting any treatment with sunitinib, UCSF is required to stick
- with cyclophosphamide, even though it may not be helping, and
- is likely causing bad side effects. In other words, if both
- cyclophosphamide and Methotrexate are stopped, then I would be
- getting only sunitinib, which is not approved for breast
- cancer, or something like that.
- ..
- 7. The doctor further indicated that a few years ago Kaiser tried
- a treatment to increase platelets, and got good results.
- However, unlike Neupogen that lifts ANC almost immediately, the
- drug for platelets takes a long time to take effect, and so has
- fallen out of favor.
