- Summary/Objective
-
- Follow up ref SDS 53 0000, ref SDS 52 0000.
-
- Used new 45M tapes received from Exabyte on 020606, ref SDS 49 0001,
- for a full file backup on c13. This required two tapes, because there
- are about 8G now on the disk.
-
- Verify failed. It crashed the system, causing a re-boot.
-
- ..
- As a result of persistant failures, on 021012 I changed the procedure
- to use a pkzip op that only backups changed work files each day.
- ref SDS 54 0001 This picks up about 50MB per day, and it is stored on
- the e drive. We can do this for several months, and back that up with
- the full file procedure using the Mammoth LT tape drive once a month.
-
- On ths occassion I observed the end of the verify op, because it was
- necessary to change the tape.
-
- ..
- When the second tape was loaded into the drive, I clicked the program
- prompt to continue the backup. Novaback software showed backup
- continued, but after several minutes, there was a message saying the
- tape was rewinding at a time when there was still about 1.5 GB to
- complete the backup. The backup seemed to continue for about 500MB or
- so, and the computer suddently re-booted.
-
- Possibly the rewinding event during a period when the software also
- showed that backup operations were underway is a scenario that is
- familiar to Exabyte.
