Subject:   Spring Symposium Registration

Dear John,

Thanks for the notice on the Spring event. Registering, I asked for the agenda, but later found it online. Looks like you are making progress toward the paperless office, so congratulations.

I am confused about the Expert Panel, which you indicate was assembled for the event based on member request. I recall suggesting on December 17, it would be helpful to have executives and stakeholders attend KMCI's events in order to have a constructive review of roles for KM. My aim is to encourage pilot testing new capabilities for assessment and improvement. Most everyone is looking for ways to improve. How can KMCI members help people grasp the opportunity for improving earnings through knowledge management. The agenda discusses a panel of "experts" that will be led by facilitators. Since it appears that the agenda is still taking shape, could you clarify this matter please. What will the panel discuss, and who is on the panel?

Have you had a chance to follow any of Doug Engelbart's Colloquium? You mentioned it in a letter in December, but I have not seen you comment in the discussion group. Doug is hoping to announce an initiative at the final session this Thursday that will finance some work through his Bootstrap organization. As usual, the big question is what to build? They have a name, DKR, which has energy, but more is needed to define an engine for knowledge management. You might appreciate hearing that the discussion group recently produced opinion urging that people are the core of knowledge management. Another contributor to the Colloquium commented favorably on my system. I think it is pretty well settled then that we need people and tools to move ahead.

Looking forward to your event.

Sincerely,

THE WELCH COMPANY
