Subject: RE: NSF Proposal, Com Metrics

Rod:

Thanks! Your timely mail backs your claim of the power of timely information rather than just reams of data.

I have just returned, and have taken a job as the director of IA-64 Product Planning. My calendar will be pretty full for the next 3-4 weeks, with all of the 1:1's and other planning meetings that happen this time of year. Lots of process to insert myself in. In some ways, I wouldn't mind inserting Com Metrics into my new job, however, I know that what I'm doing is a) something that will be very confidential and b) I'm not sure what my budget/discretionary spending allowance will be.

As I've said, selling this to people who haven't seen what the benefits are is really tough. My analogy is trying to sell someone DSL when they haven't figured out what the internet is for. "I need high speed internet, for what????"

Your phone call this morning was mighty early. Hope its because you are in Europe or something like that. My paper address will change to SC12-507 after I get moved. That will take a few weeks if history is any lesson. I'll get back to you in a couple of weeks with some time options to talk on the phone.

Sincerely,

Dave
