Doug Engelbart's OHS/DKR project |
Dear Cliff,
Thanks very much for insightful remarks to Doug Engelbart's project team meeting at SRI this past Thursday. Your command and analysis of important thinking at LANL and throughout the Knowledge Management community showed strong potential for synergy in advancing this work.
One idea is for a reciprocal presentation to LANL by Doug, or designees, that build on the foundation you laid out for (a) implementing specific solutions; and (b) identifying an effective vehicle to organize resources.
The consortium idea you posed compliments the W3C role that brings universal empowerment with attendant complexity from information overload, by adding a new and separate body of standards to make the Internet a practical environment for knowledge work across the spectrum from research, defense, and solving world problems, which occupy the attention of leaders, to less lofty, but useful demands of e-business, down to managing daily working information, discussed earlier. Your remarks on the complexity that arises from universal empowerment brought by W3C's role, add urgency for putting in place a balancing role of Knowledge Management.
Again, thanks for fitting us into your schedule. Doug and the team will be following up, as well, but I wanted to get this out, so in case I ever get run over by a truck, the world will know that your presentation should have been filmed and broadcast to the nation, as the best example of tax dollars at work.
Sincerely,
THE WELCH COMPANY
