Subject:   Commending JPS Service

Dear Bruce,

Just saying thanks for a job well done by Jim and Eric this evening on the night shift. Signing up for service in March of 1998, JPS recommended ws_ftp. The experience this evening, however, adds urgency to considering another FTP program.

Evidently, I inadvertently "moved" a directory to another directory level, and this had the effect of elminating all of the logic in the SDS records that use the directory structure for connecting chronologies of cause and effect based on context. When this occurred, it looked like the directory had been deleted. I did not know why it was not showing up in the list on the server, nor why links in the record were reporting no URL found.

Naturally, this was a big concern.

Fortunately, after only an hour waiting on hold, I was able to reach Jim on the line in the customer support department. After explaining JPS policies, and the importance of customer backup procedures, Jim put me in touch with Eric.

Eric somehow immediately found the missing 00101 directory had been moved into 00102. He moved it back into its proper position in the directory structure, and this restored life to the SDS environment on the web. We did not have time this evening to discuss what suggested to Eric that 00101 had been moved into 00102, but I am greatful for his quick work.

Please pass along my appreciation for this help.

After talking to Eric, I replicated the problem, with the ws_ftp program, but do not know what actually causes it. The "move" option seems to pop up randomly, which is dangerous. This seems to suggest that another FTP program should be given stronger consideration.

Accordingly, can JPS recommend a better FTP program?

Thanks very much for outstanding professional work by the night crew.

Sincerely,

THE WELCH COMPANY

Eric comes through again later in the evning, fixing another mistake to clear the way for sending this letter of commendation.
