Max Blodgett
in the San Francisco District noted your point about solving
information overload, ref c.  In a meeting on Feb 4, ref a, he cited IBM's new

business intelligence
service that exemplifies industry efforts to find a solution.

Operations Planning
in the District to downsize increases the advantage of using an
intelligence role to increase span of control, so that management is
effective; yet, it, also, makes funding front-end investment

for cost avoidance
a significant challenge of perception,
despite a booming economy.  Possibly Ed's review can help.
