Subject: | LANL Investigating KM |
Dear Cliff,
Thanks very much for your letter commenting favorably on the SDS design. Professor Joe Ransdell (Texas Tech) shares your interest in semiotics, and says SDS aids understanding and the scientific process. This could be useful at LANL. When time permits, could you send a letter setting out a few details on why you think SDS is a good design for some KM tasks. This would help me explain SDS to people and organizations who are interested in this capability, and request assessment from respected quarters.
On August 29 Pat Lincoln, Director of Computer Science at SRI, also, commented favorably, and discussed the prospects of creating another implementation of SDS.
Experience the past 15 years indicates working with SDS daily helps people understand how to use technology for Communication Metrics that saves time and money. This requires more than tools, as set out in a letter to Doug Engelbart's team on September 22.
Consideration might be given to contracting for Communication Metrics support, as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers did (see scope of services), to gain experience and training using technology for knowledge work.
Please keep me posted on progress.
