Rod,

[Per your letter,] I read some of your web page but am afraid I didn't get a real feel for what kind of interaction you wanted with the lab. You may not know this, but as a government lab we are not in the same position as a tenured professor at a university -- we can't work on whatever we want unless we have a specific funding source to do the work.

There are some mechanisms that allow the lab to work with private companies, but these usually require that the private company funds the work. In very rare cases, if someone higher up at the lab pushes for it, the lab may pay our end of cooperative work with an outside company, but there has to be a compelling case that the work helps LANL.

I could possibly provide you with some software through a licensing agreement, if you were interested in pursuing it.
