-
- Determined that problem with files on CPU10 is that they have a read
- only attribute from copy to CD ROM disk.
-
- Will experiment tomorrow with solutions.

- Transfer Using CD Setting Read Only Attribute
-
- Last night I discovered the Subject Index files on CPU10 in Concord
- were not being saved to the hard drive. Investigation showed nearly
- every file and many directories had a read only archive bit. This
- prevented effective work.
-
- It took about 3 hours to reset the read only bit on all of the files
- in the Subject Index, because it has a complicated directory
- structure.
-
- [On 990817 xcopy will transfer files from CD without applying read
- only attribute. ref SDS 4 0899
-
- [On 990818 DOS attribute command can change all of the files, but
- not all of the directories with a single entry. ref SDS 5 8977]
-
- ..
- I did not set this attribute.
-
- I think it may have occurred from copying from CPU11 to the CD, and
- they copy from the CD to CPU10. It is not very helpful to be able to
- transfer a bunch of stuff, it is unusable. Maybe there is a switch to
- set that controls this.
-
- Call Microsoft about why file attribute is set to read only when we
- transfer files with drag and drop from hard drive to CD, and from CD
- to another hard drive?
-
- Is there a virus?
-
-
- On 990310 called vendor for Spressa and ABCD which are part of Sony RW

- me directly to technical support.

- Talked to Ken cohw rep number.
-

-
- Explained our problem.
-
- Ken said something about all files on a CD ROM are default read only.
-
- I asked how to change this.
-
- He asked me to hold on.

- ABCD Program Format Seems to Fail Over Time
-
- It appears that periodically, the CD format done by the ABCD program
- seems to fail, and has to be repeated.
-
- Working on transferring files to Kathleen's computer I prepared the
- ABCD CD by copying the SDS directories onto the CD. When I tried to
- retrieve them on Kathleen's computer, they were missing.
-
- I checked the CD on CPU11 and they were missing, so I put them back
- on the CD. Did this twice.
-
- Then we got a message that could not access the drive.
-
- Tried formatting the CD again with ABCD.
- ..
- Did a full format that takes 35 minutes.
-
- Transferred a bunch of stuff.
-
- Tried to read it on Kathleen's computer and it shows up blank.
