0706 - Summary/Objective
0707 -
070701 - Follow up ref SDS 9 0000, ref SDS 7 0000.
070702 -
070703 - Began expanding initial home page design, and seem to have something
070704 - that fits on a single screen and conveys the main points of
070705 - Communication Metrics.
070706 -
070707 - [On 980709 developed design for subsidiary pages. ref SDS 10 0000]
070708 -
070709 -
070710 -
0708 -
0709 -
0710 - Progress
0711 -
071101 - On 980628, Morris created the file:
071102 -
071103 - f: 04 00067 00 IC whome.htm
071104 -
071105 - ... ref SDS 7 0935
071106 -
071107 - Today, I created a new file so we can keep what was originally
071108 - developed as a baseline. The new file is...
071109 -
071110 - f: 04 00067 00 IC 00101.htm
071111 -
071112 - ... ref OF 1 0000
071113 - ..
071114 - Main effort is to simplify the presentation, so people can
071115 - absorb it in small degrees.
071116 - ..
071117 - Eliminated "Contents" developed on 980628, ref SDS 7 4592, and
071118 - made the three (3) items, previously listed, a series of three (3)
071119 - simple "What..." questions about the mission statement.
071120 -
071121 - [On 980709 eliminated bullets because of change in background
071122 - color. ref SDS 10 6007]
071123 -
071124 - The new arrangement creates a close proximity between the word
071125 - "intelligence" in the mission statement, the word "integrating" in the
071126 - explanation of successful management, and the question about defining
071127 - "intelligence."
071128 -
071129 - Made "Contacts" a below the "end" bar item showing only the name of
071130 - the company, Welch, with the email address and phone number on a
071131 - single line. Added html address command so people can click on the
071132 - name or email address to contact Welch.
071133 -
071134 -
071135 - ..
071136 - Background color - Changed to Color "Lightgoldenrodyellow"
071137 -
071138 - On 980628 Morris selected a grey background image to support the
071139 - objective of appearing "executive."
071140 -
071141 - The text is a little difficult to read though, so today, I changed
071142 - the code to eliminate using the image1.gif file, and simply use
071143 - bgcolor command which is explained on page 137 of our HTML book.
071144 -
071145 - I tried a variety of "grey" colors. None worked very well. On page
071146 - 514 in Appendix F there is a list of colors in RGB values and standard
071147 - text names. The book says Netscape supports 100 "gray" colors
071148 - entered as "gray1...gray100, going from dard to light. However, when
071149 - I tried these I got a lot of different colors.
071150 -
071151 - Line 10, ref OF 1 0000, finally got something that seems to work.
071152 -
071153 - Used "silver" which is value: #C0C0C0.
071154 -
071155 - Actually, silver turns out to be too close to the color of the browser
071156 - border, so chose "lightgoldenrodyellow"
071157 -
071158 - Unfortunately, Internet Explorer is not recognizing the bgcolor
071159 - attribute. None of the colors I have selected are working in Internet
071160 - Explorer.
071161 -
071162 - ..
071163 -
071164 - The problem seems to be that IE will only recognize one "body"
071165 - command. Our macro 0122 that converts files to HTML enters a standard
071166 - default "body" command, at the top of every file. We are entering a
071167 - second "body" command to customize the background color, but IE does
071168 - not seem to like that. I tried adding an ending /body command, but
071169 - that did not work.
071170 -
071171 - Moreover, IE seems to want the "body" command above any pre or font
071172 - commands, so merely deleting the first standard body command is
071173 - failing also.
071174 -
071175 - Netscape is recognizing the second body command, and it does not care
071176 - that the command is further down in the document, but not IE.
071177 -
071178 - ..
071179 -
071180 - The solution I will try is to change macro file 0122 so it will look
071181 - for a second body command in the file, and if one is found, the second
071182 - command will be transferred to the location in the heading commands to
071183 - replace the first body command, and the command at the second location
071184 - will be removed, so there is only one body command.
071185 -
071186 - [On 980709 added code to macro file 0122 to accomodate this
071187 - condition. ref SDS 11 0000]
071188 -
071189 -
071190 - Indented Left Margin, Failing in IE and Netscape
071191 -
071192 - Page 140 at bottom para 5.3.1.6 describes a "leftmargin" command for
071193 - the "<body ...> command, that permits specifying the number of pixels
071194 - for text to indent, thus...
071195 -
071196 - <body leftmargin=50>
071197 -
071198 - </body>
071199 -
071200 - The book says this command only works in Internet Explorer, but I have
071201 - not been able to get it to work there.
071202 -
071203 - The problem with this command is that it evidently applies to the
071204 - entire document. We do not want that. It is worthless. We want to
071205 - indent here and not indent there.
071206 -
071207 - Looks like the dir command will sort of work, but it does not permit
071208 - specifiying the degree of indent.
