0814 -
081401 - Chris was making a delivery when I arrived. He returned about 20
081402 - minutes later.
081403 -
081404 - He brought the CPU downstairs from their assembly area, and connected
081405 - it to a monitor and keyboard in the sales display area.
081406 -
081407 - Chris booted the computer and ran the "System" program in the Control
081408 - Panel. It showed only 32MB of RAM.
081409 -
081410 - Chris decided the PCtown installation technician installed the 32MB of
081411 - RAM we provided, but not the 64 MB we purchased with the system.
081412 -
081413 - [On 981112 similar problems with c11. ref SDS 11 8V5I
081414 -
081415 - We tried backing up the system to test the Exabyte 8505 tape drive.
081416 - The backup began okay, but after backing up about 15% of the data on
081417 - the system, which was only about 130MB, the program stopped and
081418 - reported an error message.
081419 -
081420 - Chris started another backup of only 10M or 20M on the I drive. This
081421 - ran successfully.
081422 -
081423 - Chris went upstairs to get the 64 MB of missing RAM.
081424 -
081425 - I ran another test of the tape drive to backup the full system, and
081426 - this time it worked. Was able to backup 130 MB which is all that is
081427 - installed so far.
081428 -
081429 - Chris removed the cover from the CPU case and installed the missing 64
081430 - MB of RAM. He ran the "System" program again in the Control Panel and
081431 - it showed we have 96 MB of RAM.
081432 -
081433 - While he was installing the RAM, the sales clerk prepared the invoice.
081434 - ref DRT 1 1540
081435 -
081436 - I paid with the First Card, total amount: $2,307, per agreement....
081437 - ref SDS 7 3288
081438 -
081439 - We checked properties on some drives and it shows the disk is
081440 - configured for FAT32.

Discover Devil in Details before Mistakes

1205 -
120501 - Network Not Installed, Problem Corrected
120502 -
120503 - I asked Chris to check the network.
120504 -
120505 - He started to connect a cable from a network hub for the store display
120506 - computers, but discovered the network card was not installed in the
120507 - computer.
120508 -
120509 - This is an example of "good" discovery that occurs before money
120510 - is spent, rather than "bad" discovery that occurs at home when
120511 - the system has to be returned for correction.
120512 - ..
120513 - Chris went upstairs to get the network card. He came back and
120514 - said the network was not installed because there was not enough room
120515 - for a second ISA card next to the SCSI adapter. The invoice does not
120516 - show the JazzJet SCSI adapter is PCI or ISA. ref DRT 1 DL8N As a
120517 - result, he installed a PCI network, ref DRT 1 KT8K, card, which is
120518 - faster than the ISA network card he quoted. Chris did not charge
120519 - extra for the faster PCI network card.
120520 -
120521 - This was recorded on a second invoice for $15 which I paid to have the
120522 - system delivered, since Millie did not bring the car into the City
120523 - today.
120524 - ..
120525 - Chris installed the faster PCI card because the ISA card would
120526 - not fit in the motherboard next to the SCSI card, per above. ref SDS 0

120537 -
120538 - There are two 3 1/2 disks with software
120539 -
120540 - Chris installed the software and went through the instructions in the
120541 - manual on page 1-9 for W95 installation. So, we should not have to
120542 - do that again.
120543 -
120544 - I am not sure where he installed the software, but it does not
120545 - seem to be on the c: drive.
