Initiating Contract

0705 - ..
0706 - Summary/Objective
0707 -
070701 - Followed up work at ref SDS 7 line 48, ref SDS 6 line 47. Meeting was
070702 - postponed until tomorrow. Examined work area and began creating
070703 - Subject Index for this assignment. Visited with Max.

0709 -
0710 - Progress
0711 -
071101 - Per understandings with Tom at ref SDS 7 line 54, I arrived early for
071102 - the meeting this morning on DMMO, to get some background and setup
071103 - the work area.
071104 -
071105 - Tom was in another meeting. I introduced myself to the secretary,
071106 - Stephanie, and advised of my meeting with Tom at 1000 on DMMO, and
071107 - suggested I wait for him at the work station he showed me for this
071108 - assignement, ref SDS 2 line 348.
071109 -
071110 - At 1000 I visited with her again, and she said someone called this
071111 - morning and indicted the 1000 meeting with Tom is postponed until
071112 - Thursday.
071113 -
071114 -
071115 - Computer Workstation
071116 -
071117 - I brought CPU #7 and a VGA cable. Turned out I did not need the
071118 - cable. Was able to use the monitor cable to connect to CPU #7 and this
071119 - worked okay. The computer has a mouse, but it has a 15 pin serial
071120 - cable connector instead of a 9 pin connector, so I am using my mouse
071121 - for now. I probably can get a converter, or I have one, so I do not
071122 - have to bring a mouse.
071123 -
071124 - Monitor
071125 -
071126 - The COE's monitor is a Unisys and seems to be larger than 17" but
071127 - smaller than 21" CPU #7 is driving it in VGA, so we are getting
071128 - the full benefit of the larger screen.
071129 -
071130 - I need to visit with Tom about setting up the workstation area so
071131 - there enough room to lay out documents and also use the computer. I
071132 - am using CPU on my lap for now, and we need to just move things around
071133 - a bit, it that is okay with COE.
071134 -
071135 -
071136 -
071137 -
071138 - Subject Index
071139 -
071140 - Want to begin building this for the assignment, per mobilization scope
071141 - discussed at ref SDS 5 line 264. There are two main parts, plus the
071142 - overhead of dealing with the office and work environment. Will try
071143 - this:
071144 -
071145 - COE, SFD
071146 - DMMO
071147 - Move
071148 -
071149 - We should just give this a single COE account for minor assignments,
071150 - and then if we get a major assignment on an external contract, we
071151 - can make separate accounts under "Projects." Decided to use 04 and
071152 - to use a secondary sublevel as at PG&E. Used the SDS account
071153 - template replication feature build a set for COE. Then edited at
071154 - the lower levels so we use letters for accounts instead of numbers.
071155 - This has proven to offer greater flexibility.
071156 -
071157 - I actually want to do this at my office where the work can be done
071158 - faster.
071159 -
071160 -
071161 -
071162 - Contacts
071163 -
071164 - I need the list of organizations and contacts for DMMO and for the
071165 - District people involved in planning and interacting on the Move
071166 - project, per ref SDS 5 line 278.

0714 - 1033 Submitted Note to Tom
0715 -
071501 - Decided to try the printer to see how it will work. Prepared a letter
071502 - to Tom, confirming these understandings, but could not get printer to
071503 - work, so did not submit it.
071504 -
071505 - The printer is an HP Thinkjet, model number is unclear.

071902 -
071903 - I explained background above.
071904 - ..
071905 - Max feels there are other areas for Communication Metrics to
071906 - contribute once we prove the methodology. He said Arijs Ratskin may
071907 - need project management support. I mentioned prior discussions with
071908 - Arijs on this, ref SDS 1 line 71, and that Tom has set out support for
071909 - managing the move of the SFD to new offices. Max said the SFD Move is
071910 - not part of his perview. He said Tom was initially reluctant when Max
071911 - first talked to him about developing Communication Metrics support,
071912 - but now seems anxious to try it. I noted that I have the burden to
071913 - show value added, and thanked Max for making this opportunity
071914 - available, per the NWO paper calling for leadership with a broader
071915 - vision to try new ideas, ref OF 1 line 1247.
071916 -
071917 - [See follow up consideration by COE to expand initial contract
071918 - ultimately awarded in 960913, ref SDS 10 line 103.]
071919 -
071920 - Max said there is another group similar to DMMO that is managed by a
071921 - colleague, but which is part of Max's budget. Max feels this and
071922 - other applications in the District could use Communication Metrics
071923 - support as well. We decided to evaluate these prospective
071924 - applications after some experience is gained on the present scope.
071925 -
071926 - Max feels the contract we are contemplating should have another
071927 - paragraph to distinguish the allocation of funding.
071928 -
071929 - Max said the next regular DMMO meeting is 960222.
071930 -
071931 - [See follow up at ref SDS 8 line 72; later at ref SDS 9 line 84.]

0722 - 1253 called Tom
0723 -
072301 - Left message with receptionist asking for time of meeting tomorrow.
072302 - I also need time of meeting on 960222.

0725 -
0726 - 1253 Tom called back
0727 -
072701 - He said the meeting time is not set for tomorrow. It may be moved to
072702 - Friday. He asked if both days are good, and I said they are.
072703 -
072704 - I asked about stopping by tomorrow even if the DMMO matter does not
072705 - occur, to get the contacts and arrange the office. Tom said that
072706 - sounds okay. He does not want to get too far ahead of the contract. I
072707 - agreed.
