0910 - Summary/Objective
0911 -
091101 - Follow up ref SDS 7 0000.
091102 -
091103 - Got this thing configured under OS2 in the manner I want, so we can
091104 - work with it for a few weeks and experiement.
091105 -
091106 - I need merely click on the icon to open the network, and so can work
091107 - between it and my local disk quickly and easily using os2. SDS is in
091108 - the path when I log onto the network, because I put it in the path on
091109 - 940816. ref SDS 5 YR8R

091501 - Talked to Bernie. He will call back in about 30 minutes, after he
091502 - finishes with another call. Bernie called back and after a few false
091503 - starts, got the information we needed to accomplish the objective,
091504 - with a slight problem.

0918 - 0932 Bernie called back
0919 -
091901 - At first he said this should be a batch file, so I renamed it from
091902 - ban.cmd to ban.bat. Then he said it has to be a .cmd file, but it is
091903 - called a batch file, because it is not a Rex program file, even though
091904 - it has a .cmd extension. The important point is that it needs to be
091905 - created with the os2 editor.
091906 -
091907 - This turned out not to be true either. It just needs to be named
091908 - .cmd, as a rexx file. See below.
091909 -
091910 - ..
091911 - The file should be a .cmd file, and the folder needs a /k param
091912 - to keep the session open. We removed protype string he suggested
091913 - adding on Wednesday, ref SDS 7 line 70.
091914 -
091915 - This failed. We then tried calling the cmd file from another batch
091916 - file, and this failed also. Tried using
091917 -
091918 - start /k c:\vines\ban.cmd.
091919 -
091920 - ...in other words, we put the above command in a second batch
091921 - file which i called
091922 -
091923 - c: vines ban1.cmd
091924 -
091925 - ...it has the line above that says: start /k ...
091926 - ..
091927 - The os2 folder then calls this second batch file, ban1.cmd
091928 -
091929 - He had me leave the /k param in the folder.
091930 -
091931 - This worked, execpt after pressing Enter when the pass word is
091932 - entered, the Publisher program was executed. After exiting from that
091933 - program, I then entered the password again, and this opened the
091934 - network and left the window open.
091935 -
091936 - I tried removing the /k param in the folder, since it seemed
091937 - redundant. This solved the problem of calling Publisher.

092302 -
092303 - Bernie has insisted the cmd file must be created with the os2 editor,
092304 - but I notice that it can be read with Medit. So I saved it with Medit
092305 - and will try it.
092306 -
092307 - The thing works perfectly. The important points are to use a .cmd
092308 - file and the correct commands.
092309 -
092310 - I asked Bernie if the procedures for creating these files is in the
092311 - help system or other user documentation. He said they are not, but
092312 - he will fax some instructions on this to me.
