0506 - Summary/Objective
0507 -
050701 - Followed up work at ref SDS 8 line 38 and preparation this morning at
050702 - ref SDS 10 line 46. Did not get equipment agreed upon, and it was not
050703 - ready at the agreed time.

050705 -
050706 -

0509 -
0510 - Progress
0511 -
051101 - I arrived oa 1000 instead of 0830, as discussed with Jason yesterday,
051102 - per ref SDS 9 line 42, because of problems creating a backup tape
051103 - this morning, per ref SDS 10 line 44.
051104 -
051105 - Invoice & Deposit
051106 -
051107 - I reviewed the agreement and signed it. Jennifer said they will bill
051108 - us if we rent beyond one month. They send us a check for the despsit
051109 - which is a full month's rental, within two weeks after we return the
051110 - unit.
051111 -
051112 - I advised Jennifer I will need an invoice showing the full specifica-
051113 - tion of the computer, an invoice number. This is necessary for my
051114 - bill to PG&E. The invoice can be marked "paid." Jennifer said she
051115 - will do this.
051116 -
051117 - Jennifer asked Jason to set up the computer for me to install our
051118 - programs and work files. Initially, Jason said that the computer he
051119 - had configured for Welch, was delivered to another customer. Jennifer
051120 - said he will have to configure another one, and it will take 10
051121 - minutes. She asked me to wait in the lobby. After 30 minutes, I
051122 - asked if I could consult with Jason on his progress. She took me to
051123 - the service area.
051124 -
051125 -
051126 - Hard Drive Too Small
051127 -
051128 - Jason said he had simply forgotten to set up this computer. He had
051129 - just begun to format the hard drive. He said he had to switch the
051130 - drives. He had installed a 540 MB drive, but discovered it was
051131 - defective, so he installed a 503 MB drive instead. I explained we
051132 - ordered a 540 MB drive with the understanding it formats to 528 MB,
051133 - ref SDS 5 line 72. Jason said they don't have one that can be instal-
051134 - led today. He was unable to get the disk we ordered in time to
051135 - complete configuration so it is ready for delivery to PG&E on Monday.
051136 -
051137 - It was now about 1130, instead of 0830 when I had planned to begin
051138 - work, or even 1000 when I was able to begin work at Rent-A-Computer. I
051139 - was concerned about not finishing in time for the 0300p meeting. I
051140 - said to proceed with the installation on the basis that it was the
051141 - only apparent option within the prevailing time constraints.
051142 -
051143 -
051144 - Disk Partitioning
051145 -
051146 - We then proceeded to partition the disk according to our standard
051147 - configuration, as discussed with Priscilla at ref SDS 5 line 97.
051148 - Jason had not previously partitioned a disk with fdisk. It took a
051149 - few false starts, but finally got to done.
051150 -
051151 - It turned out however that he was unable to load the operating system
051152 - and Windows because it was unable to connect to their server, or at
051153 - least Jason could not determine how to do this, with the disk parti-
051154 - tioned. I agreed to load this software myself.
051155 -
051156 - We set up in Rent-A-Computer's conference room. The only way I could
051157 - install the software was to go through the disk partition process
051158 - again wtih FDISK for DOS v. 5.0.

0808 - Summary/Objective
0809 -
080901 - Was able to restore the stuff on c: drive okay, but for some reason
080902 - there was a failure on drive d:, e: and the others. The program
080903 - seemed to report all 260 MB were restored, but the data was not there.
080904 -
080905 - [Did not discover cause until ref SDS 11 line 29.]
080906 -
080907 - Meg said I could take the cpu home for the weekend to complete the
080908 - work. She prepared a delivery receipt. I have to return the yellow
080909 - copy on Monday. They will then deliver the computer to PG&E.
080910 -
080911 - The restore on the c: drive ment all of the system files were
080912 - installed, so the computer would boot correctly.
080913 -
080914 -
080915 - Completed work with Laplink
080916 -
080917 - Was able to transfer the stuff that did not transfer from the
080918 - tape, using laplink.
080919 -
080920 - Problem with Wordperfect
080921 -
080922 - The following two files would not transfer via laplink:
080923 -
080924 - i: 00 04 02 01 ddeml32.dll
080925 - i: 00 04 02 01 os2shcwp.dll
080926 -
080927 - ...the files seem to be okay. I used the copy command to
080928 - transfer them via disk.
080929 -
080930 -
080931 -
080932 - OS2 & Windows Failed, No Video Controller
080933 -
080934 - Everything tested correctly. I then booted os2 and got an error
080935 - message that the video device driver was not loaded. The program was
080936 - hung between OS2 and DOS. Could not get the presentation manager on
080937 - the screen in order to boot back to DOS.
080938 -
080939 - Used instructions at ref SDS 1 line 44 to reconfigure DOS.
