141001 - ..
141002 - Wayne is Using More SDS Features and Discoverying Usefulness
141003 -
141004 - I asked Wayne how well SDS is helping him?
141005 -
141006 - He said he is using the Diary more and more as things come up that
141007 - occurred further in the past. He uses Contacts and/or the SI to look
141008 - up records, and feels this works pretty well.
141009 -
141010 - This indicates he is applying the core concept of SDS & POIMS,
141011 - capturing what gets done and relying on that to guide current and
141012 - future operations.
141013 -
141014 - He does not have enough time to log all of the documents that come in,
141015 - and connect them up to related work. We considered the advantage of
141016 - having an admin support person do the logging and some linking for
141017 - him, so he can reduce the amount of paper he has to handle.
141018 -
141019 - [On 970711 Wayne reported he can locate documents from prior
141020 - years faster than others in DNRC, because he is using SDS; this
141021 - has resulted in people contacting Wayne to find needed documents.
141022 - ref SDS 10 3003.]
141023 -
141024 - [On 951228 discussed using a Communication Manager to solve the
141025 - problem of executives, like Wayne, who do not having enough time
141026 - to use the tools they have that save time and mooney. see record
141027 - at ref SDS 11 8804]
141028 -
141029 -
141030 - ..
141031 - Citations Need Exposure to Discover Ease or Use and Power When Used
141032 -
141033 - Wayne is not using citations. He has not had enough time to
141034 - experiment on how to create them.
141035 -
141036 - I offered to guide him through a few to show how quickly and easily
141037 - this feature can be applied. I explained citations are a big benefit
141038 - in finding specific information quickly, but they have to be created.
141039 - The program creates some default citations automatically.
141040 -
141041 - Wayne not have enough time today to focus on SDS citations, so we will
141042 - defer it to another time.
141043 -
141044 - We discussed this previously on 920909. ref SDS 1 9776
141045 -
141046 - Since then Help has been improved to explain it better on 930916, see
141047 - ref SDS 3 6782.
141048 -
141049 - If he gets this submission loaded and an opportunity to view
141050 - this record on line, he can experiment with citation look-up, by
141051 - double clicking on any citation after the string "ref".
141052 -
141053 - [On 980509 I sent Wayne a letter with citations to illustrate how
141054 - they save time. ref SDS 12 0000]
141055 -
141056 -
141057 -
141058 - Knowledge Revolution
141059 -
141060 - I asked about his observations on the "Knowledge Revolution" analysis
141061 - submitted at ref SDS 5 line 86, via ref DIP 4 line 36. Wayne could
141062 - not recall seeing this. I briefly discussed it in the context of the
141063 - "Information Superhighway."
141064 -
141065 - Will submit this in my SDS records, so after he installs it, he
141066 - can look it up when time permits.
141067 -
141068 - Install Extracted Records
141069 -
141070 - Copy the files on the a: disk as follows:
141071 -
141072 - C>copy a:s*.zip g:\sd\35 <Enter>
141073 -
141074 - Open SDS and create a record this task in the Schedule, then
141075 - open that record. In the SDS record, open the "Diary/Reports"
141076 - menu and click on:
141077 -
141078 - Install Transferred Records
141079 -
141080 - ...you will get a screen that asks you to press <Enter> or
141081 - click on <Enter> if you wish to proceed. Do that.
141082 -
141083 -
141084 - You can then look up my record for 931008 in the Diary and select
141085 - the record for:

1413 - Publications - Project Management
1414 -
141401 - Sent recent publications logged on project management, which may be
141402 - helpful to DNRC. These are on a separate disk: Project Management
141403 - Publications. Install as follows:
141404 -
141405 - C>a: <Enter>
141406 - A>install <Enter>
141407 -
141408 -
141409 - Publications management is a new feature added in October (see ref SDS
141410 - 4 line 430). After installing the Transferred records, per above, you
141411 - can open MY SDS records and in the SI do a subject report on:
141412 -
141413 - 03 Projects
141414 - 03 00050 SDS Development
141415 - 03 00050 01 Marketing
141416 - 03 00050 01 02 Customer Analysis Perceived Value
141417 - 03 00050 01 08 Application to Market
141418 -
141419 -
141420 - Another avenue to these records is:
141421 -
141422 - 02 Company
141423 - 02 06 Personnel
141424 - 02 06 01 Training
141425 - 02 06 01 02 Management Skills

141427 - 02 06 01 02 04 Overview of Methods
141428 - 02 06 01 02 ... ...
141429 - 02 06 01 11 Contract Disputes
141430 -
141431 -
141432 - Doing a "Subject Reports" on above gets SDS records which list pub-
141433 - lished articles on particular subjects (e.g. "Leadership & Change",
141434 - "CPM", "Cost Management", etc.). You can open the articles from
141435 - within the SDS records.
141436 -
141437 - Or, you can do a Doc Log report, and click the primary selection
141438 - criteria to "Publications". Set the start date to 1990, and then
141439 - click on <Enter>, this will produce a Doc Log report listing all
141440 - published articles showing the title, author and publication. You
141441 - can open the articles from the Log and you can open the SDS records
141442 - where these docs were entered into the system.
