Training

0404 - ..
0405 - Summary/Objective
0406 -
040601 - Did additional training and installed updated SDS software, including
040602 - the billing system.
040603 -
040604 - The training today was broken up by hardware glitches. I felt it
040605 - was not productive for Denis, and so suggested we stop and take it
040606 - up next week.
040607 -
040608 - We need to organize training so he is doing the work and
040609 - writing up his understanding of each issue and saving it in
040610 - records he can look up.
040611 -
040612 - I need to develop some records he can use productively, so he
040613 - gets into the swing of the system. I will try to set up
040614 - something over the weekend.
040615 -
040616 -
040617 - We had another hardware problem, in which somehow Windows program
040618 - files were seemingly deleted. By the time we got them restored,
040619 - it was too late to do effective training.

SUBJECTS
Develop & Maintain Hardware System
Loss of Data on Disk

0605 - Summary/Objective
0606 -
060601 - Follow up per ref SDS 2 line 170601.
060602 -
060603 - Somehow the c: windows directory seemed to be deleted. We
060604 - discovered this when the program hung, and I had to turn the
060605 - computer off and on, to re-start. I noticed some quick messaged,
060606 - saying bad filename. The Windows program did not boot up.
060607 -
060608 - I found the himem.sys file was missing, and so copied from CPU
060609 - #7. Problem persisted, and I found smartdrv.exe was missing. I
060610 - restore this from CPU #7. Then found Windows would not boot. I
060611 - did a dir on
060612 -
060613 - c: windows
060614 -
060615 - ....program showed only about 10 files in this directory,
060616 - including the two I just copied.
060617 -
060618 -
060619 - Decided to restore the directory from a tape backup of oa 930405.
060620 -
060621 - During restore program registered for evey file that it could not
060622 - restore because file already existed. After the restore operation
060623 - completed, the dir command, showed all of the files in
060624 -
060625 - c: windows
060626 -
060627 - ..., thus, we have several puzzels.
060628 -
060629 -
060630 - This experience in combination with loss of SDS reported at ref
060631 - SDS 6 line 54, and, ref SDS 7 line 130, is pointing to a possible
060632 - hardware problem.
060633 -
060634 -
060635 - The same thing has happened twice.

Learning period/difficulty
Thinking Through Writing
Learning time/difficulty
Too busy to manage effectively

1009 - Summary/Objective
1010 -
101001 - Did some general review to help him get started entering the record.
101002 -
101003 - Denis is not creating SDS records of his work, contrary to POIMS
101004 - objectives, ref OF 6 line 37, and our discussion at ref SDS 5 line
101005 - 240505, and at ref SDS 5 line 240523.
101006 -
101007 - He has some entries for tasks, but no substance. There is still a
101008 - learning curve to surmount so he is comfortable knocking out a
101009 - simple record like this one. To be sure his progress is on track
101010 - with others. He has begun to use the SI. He is beginning to
101011 - comprehend the cope of the program and how it all fits together.
101012 - ..
101013 - I explained that some new Users feel only a computer expert can
101014 - use SDS, but that proposition is untrue. Computer experts are as
101015 - baffeled by SDS as everyone else. The challenge of SDS is that it
101016 - helps people do a variety of tasks people normally do unconsciously
101017 - but imperfect- ly. To do a better job, we have to become aware of
101018 - these unconscious tasks and learn to implement them with a
101019 - keyboard/mouse. Like a piano player, once we get the feel of the
101020 - program, we can make better music.
101021 -
101022 -
101023 - Denis will be tied up until next Tuesday. We will try to meet then.
101024 -
101025 - I explained the benefit of me doing a few meetings for Denis, so we
101026 - can develop some diaries he can use as templates to make follow ups.
101027 - This is discussed below.
