060901 - Attended wrestling dual meet between Cupertino High School and Palo

060905 - When I arrived, first walked through the locker room to remember the
060906 - feel of the place from 45 years ago.  Then walked next door to the
060907 - Exercise Room, which is a small gymnasium, where the wresting team
060908 - trains.  It was fun to see a lot of banners on the wall with my name
060909 - commemorating past victories.  I was introduced to the winner of the
060910 - Rod Welch award last year for the outstanding wrestler.  Nice to still
060911 - be honored in that way.

060914 - Met Jay Lawson who took over coaching after Richard left the program
060915 - in about 1987 to about 1995.  Jay now teaches history at the high

060940 - Alex noted disparities and near term changes in performance standards

060951 - In the dual meet today, there were a few good matches, but
060952 - unfortunately at least 3 and maybe 4 forfitures, because one or the
060953 - other team did not have a wrestler for the weight class.  There was
060954 - also a match between a girl and boy, which seems to stretch the
060955 - envelope of political correctness.

060958 - One match stood out.  Both kids were strong, fast, well coached and
060959 - determined.  The Cupertino wrestler won by something like 18 6.  He
060960 - was talented in turning the opponent, but  the Palo Alto wrestler
060961 - would not let himself get pinned; he never gave up.  Near the end of
060962 - the match he made a reversal and took the offensive, but too late to
060963 - make up the scoring difference.

060966 - After the match, the reunion people were invited out to BJ's a night
060967 - club and restaurant across from Apple Computer on highway 9, near
060968 - 280.  Turned out I had to leave before we were all seated.
