- Gary advised that the code on his computer at home is working
- correctly. The problem he reported yesterday is not occurring on his
- home computer, so he concludes that problems on his work computer were
- caused by incorrectly assembling and installing SDS code and data
- files from his home computer to his work computer.
- ..
- Gary's letter this morning received after his call, makes the same
- point. see below. ref SDS 0 KE82
- ..
- As a result, updated SDS code on Gary's computer, ref SDS 0 6C9W, and
- he modified the receive batch file to avoid having this overwritten,
- also, per below. ref SDS 0 RE9W
- ..
- Gary explained the procedure he used for opening an SDS record that is
- on the disk, but is not listed in the Diary Summary. He opens an SDS
- record and selects any line from the Reference field, and changes the
- record ID that begins in column 171 to the ID of the record to fix.
- Restore the normal offset, and press Enter on the line just edited to
- open the target record with the SDS environment. Have to make sure the
- initial record is not saved with the temporary change to the Reference
- ID, but otherwise this method avoids 6 steps 2 - 7, and only takes
- basically 1 or 2 steps, so is faster and easier, than the method shown
- in the record yesterday to test the problem. ref SDS 3 QL80

- Gary feels the problem he had yesterday creating a diary for a prior
- date on his work computer was caused by having code that is out of
- date, since these problems are not occurring on his home computer, per

- Gary suggested sending another SDS update as of 031201.

- While we talked, zipped a set of updates and put them on the web.
- ..
- Gary downloaded and installed the zip files.
- ..
- Gary's letter, ref DRT 1 0001, received this morning says....
-
- 1. On my home system, using F2 Save did restore the records to the
- diary, so the likelihood that I have code out of synch is high.
- ..
- Gary discussed this theory when he called this morning before his
- letter was received, per above.
- ..
- Gary continues...
-
- 2. I have noticed a problem with some of the batch files being
- overwritten on a regular basis, requiring that I integrate the
- changes specific to my installation.
- ..
- 3. Since the files are updated without warning, I generally find
- out about it when something fails to work. In a specific
- instance, my rcv.bat was overwritten with a version that didn't
- overwrite all the files on C:, which we discovered was
- necessary for updates of code files which are modified by SDS
- during operation. I had to fix the file on both systems, and it
- seems that I had to do it several times.
- ..
- 4. I am thinking of making a set of changes to keep the configured
- files separate.
- ..
- 5. I have already changed the names on my rcv an xfer files to add
- a 'g' in front of my copies to prevent their being overwritten.
- ..
- 6. I am thinking about changing the names for home ('gh') and work
- ('gw') for those files and for sds.bat as well.
- ..
- 7. This would require that any changes that you make to those
- files I would have to incorporate manually, but that is a small
- price.
