- C11 would not work today. Called for support. Got C10 from Concord

- I can use it while CPU11 is repaired.

- Got up this morning about 0738. Pressed the Shift key on C11 to bring
- up the screen from suspend mode. The system did not respond. Seems to
- be same problem that occurred on 000212. ref SDS 30 8019
-
- Tried moving the mouse, pressing other keys, no response. Keyboard
- and mouse were not working.
-
- Tried reset button. It did not work.
-
- ..
- Pressed the Power on\off switch. It did not work.
-
- Unplugged the CPU to power down. Plugged it in again.
-
- Pressed the Power on\off switch. The system came on, but did not
- boot. Nothing shows on the screen, there is no response to the
- keyboard and the mouse. The boot sequence does not reach the a:
- drive.
-
- The green power on light blinks continuously. This is different from
- normal mode. The green power on light normally does not blink.
-
- Called Randy at PCSC who worked on the CPU with his colleage, Alec,
- this past Sunday, 000227, when they installed W98 2nd Edition.
- ref SDS 36 0001
-
- ..
- Randy said W98 puts the computer in Suspend mode and it gets stuck
- sometimes, which he cited on 000212 as the reason for changing from
- W98 1st Edition to W98 2nd Edition. ref SDS 30 2304 The upgrade seems
- to be worse than the prior condition, which lasted 13 months before
- failing.
-
- [On 000310 research on MS Support web site shows Windows 2000 also
- gets stuck in suspend mode. ref SDS 39 3481
-
- I explained we have two computers and have used this method for two
- years. It has never displayed this problem, until after we did the
- upgrade on Sunday.
-
- Randy will call Alec to see if he can come by and investigate.
- ..
- Randy called about 30 minutes later and said Alec is working on
- a project and so cannot come over. Randy feels the motherboard may

-
- How do we configure the hard drive in CPU11 for use in CPU10?
-
- We did this to get information from the hard drive on Kathleen's
- computer on 980811. ref SDS 26 9667
-
- Removed the disk drive from CPU11. There is a screw on the back side
- that will be difficult to replace, because it is very small and so
- hard to grasp, and it is recessed about 2 inches, making it very
- difficult to position for fastening the screw into the disk casing.
-
- Instructions, on the top of the hard drive case for CPU11, say that
- jumper 5 is "on" for Master and Single Drive installation. It is
- "off" for Slave configuration. I therefore, removed the jumper on the
- 5th set of pins. This is easy to recognize, because there is only one
- jumper on the set of 5 2-pin rows in the ribbon connection to the hard
- drive. There is another jumper but it seems to be a spare. It is
- connecting adjacent pins on different rows, so I assume it is
- essentially not doing anything, but providing another jumper in case
- it is needed for a different connection that requires two jumpers.
- ..
- On CPU10, removed the center ribbon connector from the hard
- drive, per information in the record on 990811. ref SDS 26 1632
- Connected the center connector of the ribbon to the Maxtor drive
- removed from CPU, and connected the end of the ribbon to the disk
- drive in CPU10, because it is the master.
-
- Connected an open power cable to the Maxtor drive from CPU11.
-
- Connected CPU10 to the monitor, keyboard and mouse. Booted the
- system.
-
- Used DEL to open CMOS. It shows a primary master and primary slave,
- which is what we want; there are no error messages.
-
- Escaped from CMOS setup. Got an error message saying the system
- could not find W98 on I, and then displayed a C: prompt.
-
- Here is what I think we have...

- the stuff on c:, then restore the regular configuration, format the
- d: drive, and move everything to d: on CPU10.
-
- I think everything on e: from CPU11, can simply be copied directly,
